Poll question: Will our Democracy be over if bush steals the election again ?
I believe the corporations will own everything if Kerry gets cheated like Al Gore did. Privatization of our entire Government could very likely be possible. They already did Medicare. Social Security will be next. Our kids and grandkids won't even stand a fighting chance on having any kind of a future. God help us if the election is stolen again.

4. Don't worry. As they're doing snot zero about oil usage,
they'll be as much burnt toast as the rest of us when the time comes.

5. I believe that 2 elections in a row would abbrogate our
implied contract as willing participants in their system, and a little revolution would be in order. I do not think there is any way you can say the government could maintain the consent of the governed in this situation.

6. And the second civil war will turn hot.
And it will not be an easy win.
This will not just be North against South.
This will be Urban against Exurban/Rural.
This will be neighborhood against neighborhood.
This will be churches bombed, ricen spread shopping malls,
Infrastructure sabotaged.

America will be over.

7. Yes it will be over
Martial Law will be imposed, the Constitution will be suspended, and the military will be in control.

8. Despite the damage to our country
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 11:39 AM by MrScorpio
I don't think that this one event would put a stake throught the heart of our democracy.

It may take years, or even decades to recover but, and maybe I'm being a little too optimistic here, America will recover.

We survived after Nixon. I remember quite vividly what damage he did to the country 30 years ago.

If we can survive that, we can survive this.

I REFUSE to let Shrubya take my freedoms away. The Constitution that I'm sworn to uphold and defend is a lot stronger than he'll ever be.

MY VOTE: God help us. (But we have to help ouselves)

12. But those were just practice runs for this.
This is far worse, and closer to the brink.
I don't remember anyone predicting that Nixon or Reagan, scum that they were for the most part, would cancel elections or bomb US citizens.
I find both those beliefs quite widely held now.

9. Wake up and smell the money
There never was a democracy, but till Dec.2000
they at least had to let people have that impression.
That's looks to be over and not that it likely
makes a bit of difference now but it seems this deity fiction
which you reference in the poll
played a very large part in the final destruction of
democracy and freedom.
Anyone willing to accept the musings of a few acient scribs
rather than think for themselves may deserve what it looks
like is here and going to stay in place for many many years in the future.

Here's hoping this is wrong but more and more it feels very much like the last scene in Planet of the Apes.

How tight will the rope around everyone's neck will have to get before people wake up and see that it's hanging on a gallows constructed by religion.

11. We really don't have a democracy, per se.
More of a plutocracy, IMO. But it will get worse with 4 more years of this administration. A Bush Adminstration, unfettered by election, will push their radical right wing agenda...privitization of Social Security being first and foremost.

I just realize how pedantic I sound. I'm sorry for that. But I don't think we live in a democracy right now. But any chance of our gaining control over our destiny will be lost with 4 more years of Bush.

13. Well, yeah... actually it is a Republic-Semi-representative
form of government, but it is as close to a Democracy as any have come in a long time.

14. What was it the Monkey said, We won't be here. Talking about
Legacy of his presidency. I think We are doomed if he goes back in.
America will be like Rome. A divided country no more than a divided house can stand. If we don't fight each other, some angry country will blow us away ! Not exactly optimisitic is it?
