Any other gals here HATE SHOPPING?
I kid you not, I have less anxiety visiting the dentist than I do buying clothes. I have needed a new purse now for at least a couple of years (yes I only have one). I have five pairs of shoes and I wear them until they fall apart. :o

1. I'm getting there
but my eldest hates shopping. She wears clothes from when she was 12 so she doesn't have to but new. I've found a wherehouse sale where I buy all my clothes for the year. Works for me.

I'll try on a couple things and then I get frustrated and don't feel good! Last time I abandoned the effort because the store was playing a Whitney Houston song! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

4. I hate trying on clothes!
It sucks. And last summer I went to buy some new shorts. I went into the dressing room with a size 12. Couldn't them zipped even though I was wearing a 12 in jeans at the time.

Back at the rack of shorts, I held the 12 up to a 10. No difference at all in size. It's a conspiracy to drive me totally batshit.

11. My ex Tombo once bought five pairs of jeans without trying them on
he couldn't understand my amazement. When he tried them on at home the first four fit perfectly. When the fifth pair was "a little tight" I threw myself on the bed screaming THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Me!
I also have five pairs of shoes, but I do own two purses, one brown and one black.

If I have to go into a clothing store, I purchase the first appropriate thing I find, do not try it on, and get myself out.

My friends have finally given up asking me to go shopping. I'll go just about anywhere else at any time and have a great time.

6. I despise it. I find I am nearly alone in that feeling, though.
I especially hate shoe shopping, and have found one brand of shoe that I like and have bought it in every color. On line. I wear the same exact style every day and love it. No more shoe shopping! When they wear out, I buy the same ones on the internet.

Clothing shopping is nearly as irritating. I limit that to about once a year, replacing things that have worn out. I have a "dress-up" type of job, so I have to buy stuff, but it drives me nuts. I do some catalog shopping from a catalog that I know from experience has clothing that fits me. I still get burned once in a while, but it's better than going to a store.

The only store I like is a bookstore, and I can browse in there for hours. But I really don't consider that to be shopping -- more like going to the library.

10. Nay, I passed through the shoe section of a department store recently
I tell you, if I sat down and tried to design the ugliest shoe ever I couldn't even come close to what I saw there. What is up with extreme pointy-toe look? Are our toes shaped like triangles??? :o

23. Holy shit, don't get me started on shoe styles. Are they designed
for Martian feet and tastes??? "Ugly" doesn't even begin to describe those horrid pointy shoes. I want to gouge my eyes out with a melon baller when I see them. Hideous! I would have to amputate my little toe to even get those monstrosities on my foot. AAAAAAGH.

Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 05:44 PM by daisygirl
I wear sneakers pretty much all the time (unless the weather's bad and then I wear my combat boots).

I like how nice shoes look when I ever find a pair that fits right and is comfortable and all that, but it's such hell shopping for them that I've pretty much given up...

And I totally agree with Skittles - what's up with the pointy toes? Isn't that just *asking* for bunions???

7. I hate shopping for clothes
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 05:41 PM by burrowowl
If I find a shirt or something I like, I buy as many as I can at the same time.
However, take my credit cards, checks, cash from me when going into a bookstore, art supply store or hardware store.
Wish I were rich like Georgia O'Keefe, she ordered 10 cotton black dresses, 10 woolen black dresses from Dior made to order and that took care of that.
It is getting harder to find decent shoes, other than gym and boots. Penny loafers, decent dress shoes no longer exist or are made in China and don't fit right. Try to get a AAA heel and AA or A front.

hardware store in Levallois. I hate Home Depot and Lowe's they don't have stuff I need and either nails are sold in packs, don't need that many, for buying by the pound I go elsewhere. Chase hardware has sythes, but heavy Austrian ones, not nice French ones.

16. I do at least 60 % on line
I find it less time consuming. I can do it at my leisure. I also find equal value so I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not going to a store.

I still shop for groceries and my daughters clothing. Everything else is off the internet.

Shopping sucks the big one

but moving to a rural area really helped.
No one is fancy here and shopping options are pathetic so why bother. It turns out it is really a huge waste of time!

Another thing about shopping is that it starts a vicious cycle. You see things in the store that you could use or are cute, and go home and think about them, maybe rationalize a purchase, go back to buy it, see more stuff, go home and think about it, rationalize the pruchase, go in to buy it, see more stufff........................

You have GOT to get a new purse! I get one once every three months or so. I'm convinced that my mission in this life is to find the perfect purse. I'm still searching, and I'd be happy to take you with me. Shoes can be troublesome - that's a pretty individualized situation. But a new purse? You need help, girl! B-)

My husband likes to shop and I can't stand it. Crazy huh! I think its a waste of time and money. And the sizing. You can try on 5 things and each one will fit in a different size. I just had to buy new bathing suits for our trip to Hawaii (can't wait!) and I put it off for months. We leave in 2 weeks. They all fit wrong!

Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 07:48 PM by AZDemDist6
and then call them with a measuring tape in your hands naked.

they will tell you the sizing for each suit, you measure, they send the right one

i did this for a trip to Hawaii in November, no stores had suits and 10 years later I still have the suits and they still fit great!

PS they have a "virtual model" you can try stuff on too... it's actually pretty cool. Unfortunately I can't afford them often, but their stuff is excellent quality and lasts for years.

26. Guilty.
I despise malls. I usually luck into what few items I am searching for but don't normally stick around to look. And all malls are avoided between the months of October and February - the consumer nightmare that Christmas has become!

but I really do despise shopping for them. Dragging thru stores, looking thru long racks of stuff, finding a few things that might work, trying them on, finding they don't look right--rinse, repeat! :silly:

I have exactly 2 pairs of work shoes-- black pumps and a summer-only white backless pair. I often wonder if people notice.

28. It's a chore
My mother lived for it and the other women I know about the age she would have been ( 70 ) seem to think it's great fun. But I know lots of women who just hate any shopping. I like grocery shopping but that's it. For anything else, my husband and I hit the stores with a scripted - almost militaristic - plan; get in and get out.

I hate the mall. I never go there. I like electronics stores and book stores though. The last clothes I bought I got from Cabelas online. I only where shorts and polo shirts and sneakers or Tevas at work. I refuse to dress up unless it is for a job interview. For EVERYTHING else I wear pants (even weddings, funerals and dates- if someone has a problem that is just tough shit. LOL). Of course I live on the coast where Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops are considered formal attire!

30. I do hate it!
I have for years. Every now and then I go out to shop and have fun but mostly I avoid it as much as possible. I have several catalogs that I really like and I try to shop by using them. It is just a pain to go and every store is so packed full that I just hate it. I loved it when there were local stores where you could get to know the people who worked there, when I was in college one woman would always call me when they got something in that she knew I would like. I would go in, try the things on and then she would call again when they went on sale. There are no places like that anymore.

32. I hate to shop so much that....
One time I called up the appliance store and said, "My washer just broke. Bring me a new one." They wanted to know what kind, etc., and I said, "Surprise me." Boy did they ever. My husband could never figure out how we got some washer with a giganto tub and one speed.

I bought my car new only because my former car broke down in front of a dealership. I walked in the door and pointed to a car and told the salesman that if he could get me out with financing in 30", he could sell me the car.

Two types of shopping I like: going to garden centers and yard sale shopping. Also going to book stores but I agree that's more like being at the library.

38. Two words: Bra shopping.
I also get cold sweats and stomach cramps in the mall. I don't even bother any more. I found a cheap fabric market where they custom tailor clothes for $20-$50 a pop, I buy exactly what I need and what fits and I leave it alone for another 2 or 3 years.
