The reason the Ramones are the most overrated band ever
Their music is overly simply, they can't really play their insturments, their lyrics were never deep - sure they have a campy element, but its a one trick pony.

2. Ah, but they were idols to legions of ...
...overly simplistic bad musicians who wrote trite songs. Its only rock and roll.

4. DMUB
"I'm a teenage lobotomy"
"I wanna be sedated"
"I don't wanna be a pinhead anymore"
"Bad bad brain"
"Gimme gimme shock treatment"

I'm seeing a common theme here...

you have to look at them as one of the seminal paths (grand-dads?) of punk. Yeah, it looked pretty simple, and yes they really couldn't play that well, but there was a very mannerist intent to it, almost like performance art. Read some bios and punk history, it gives a different perspective. I mean, they weren't just dumb guys from Queens. ( Forest Hills, excuse me) A lot of their songs were a big put on. And some of them were really sweet, esp. Dee-Dee's songs. And noboody had ever played like, and as fast, as, Johnny, as menacing as he looked. And a lot of British punk would not have occurred without them!

And they were great to dance to, and cute. Sigh. RIP Joey and Dee Dee.

Sorry Taverner, can't agree with you on this one. :)

6. Overrated? The Ramones? Bullshit. They are NYC's
Beach Boys.

Mean nasty cities like NYC need mean nasty drunks singing songs in it.
