Forget worst bands - Who's the BLANDEST music group ever???
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 12:08 AM by northwest
I mean, one that plays BORING, unflavoured, unimaginative music, regardless of sub-genre???

I have to make three nominations:

1) Coldplay. They are the epitome of unflavoured rice cake adult contemporary music. Play their songs as a lullaby to little children at naptime at a preschool, and they'll fall right asleep. It's basically tranquilizer music.

2) 12 Stones. I had the misfortune of buying one of their plain yogurt-flavoured CDs a few years ago, and I wish I had my 15 bucks back. Unimaginative lyrics, bland guitar riffs (they only use 3 different chords in their whole album), and sub-par singing. Sounds like the album was produced after doing a focus group study. Just like something a Clear Channel rock station would play, all right.

3) Three Days Grace. Another bland, faceless slug rock group from Canada (Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, Celine Dion, Nickelback, and now THIS???) who kissed the ass of the richest record executive they could find once the turnip wagon dropped them off in Hollywood. Bland lyrics, but worse is the bland, simple guitar riffs. The radio overplays their shit, too.

Who do you nominate???

12. bland bands
I'll make a distinction between bands that are awful because their blandness is so tedious and grating, and bands that are truly non-descript in the sense that I don't dislike them any more than I like them.

The former category would be bands like Toad the Wet Sprocket, Seven Mary Three, and the Cranberries. :puke:

The latter category would be Counting Crows. Perfectly tolerable background music, nothing more or less.

17. I'm with you ...
I never knew piano playing could be so ... violent. Their MTV VMA (I think it was that anyway) performance last year of "Politik" was awesome--it really sold me on them. Chris Martin really pounded the heck out of that piano.

"Clocks" is another song that benefits from a live performance. Until I saw it on their live DVD I never realized just how much it rocks.

Sadly, lamestream radio has only picked up the songs that would make people put them into the bland category--altough I love "Yellow" and "In my place," I can see how hearing them once an hour would drive someone bonkers.

21. So Many Bland Bands...
I agree; Coldplay is just boring and derivative. Sting is intolerably dull and whiney. Hootie blows. Saline Dijon is tone-deaf, homely and trite.

22. I've seen Coldplay live
at V2001. (It's V2004 this weekend here in Chelmsford but I'm not going this year as with the expection of Muse the line up sucks)

It was raining, and yes they were a bit bland. :-( Fortunatly the Charlatans came on after them and were a whole lot better.

That said, if I had to name something bland, how about the Lighthouse Family?
