I'm a fifth-generation Texan, and I've lost track of how many people have told me over the years they were surprised to hear it, due to my lack of a "twang."

Then one night I find myself in this terrific little college bar in Syracuse, NY ("The Blue______" Somebody help me out with the full name, I've forgotten; one of the best bars I've ever visited). I order a beer, the bartender's face lights up and he booms out "Ah! Southern boy!" Everything's relative....
