Butter is yummy, but it's fattening and we don't live in a society that encourages too much movement (that'll change after peak oil renders our technology too costly to maintain...)
6. I've just started using clarified butter as a cooking oil
It's the best cooking oil for omelets and its great for hash browns. It's also fun to make and a little goes a long way. I stopped using margarine years ago and never looked back. Margarine sucks.
I use olive oil for most things, but clarified butter goes better with eggs and potatoes. I try not to live in fear of food (except for seafood, of which I'm allergic) and I figure a billion Indians can't be totally wrong. :-)
We are not the healthiest people around. All our food is cooked to death in really nasty stuff like ghee and coconut oil. You'll never catch any of us with mad cow disease or salmonella since we cook everything for a long time and really soak up the grease.
But to each his own. omelettes are like the perfect food. mmm....
It's a blend of butter and margarine and tastes great, bakes great, and cooks great. I haven't been able to find it lately so maybe it's been discontinued. Land of Lakes used to make it.
