Yesterday, my SO (who is disabled) and I went to the public library. We parked in the handicapped space (we have the decal, natch). I decided to stay in the car while he went into the building. I look over to the front of the library, and there, parked right across the walkway where patrons walk in and out, is a big old SUV. The guy had tinted windows, but you could see he had a huge gold watch on. The driver appeared to be male. My SO had to walk around his SUV to get in, as did everyone else.
Seems like he had "parked" there, in front of the building, in the crosswalk, in front of the dip where those who need it can wheel their wheelchairs or whatever,up and into the library. There was a youngish kid in the passenger seat.
BTW, there were plenty of non-handicapped spaces in the lot to use, but I guess they were too far away for him to sit.
So, people have to drive/walk around this jerk, and I am sitting there, wondering should I say something or not. I am waiting for an accident to happen, where someone will cross in front of the SUV to walk out, and a car will come around and hit them because they cannot see the pedestrian due to the SUV.
So, next to me, in the other handicapped space, a car pulls in. It is an elderly couple. They have the disabled decal, and the wife is using a cane. I smile at them, as I am inclined to do.
As I see the couple, especially the female half, laboriously make their way to the library. Does the SUV driver move for them?
No.
Will they say something to the SUV schmuck? Well, YES!
I don't know wth the couple, especially the female, said to the SUV driver, but at first he, from what I could see, appeared stunned. Then he pulled his car up a few feet. Then he took off and started to circle the parking lot, in a jerky and nervous way.
I wonder what they said to him? It looked like it scared the crap outta him.
As he drives behind me, what do I see on the back window?
"BUSH/CHENEY '04"
Why am I not surprised?
Just another day in Freeper Central. How I wish I had said something!
