1. Germany has two less golden
The jury in the military riding competition made a mistake; US, France and the UK protested; the court blundered (giving the medals to Germany, but with a legal error); the international sports court decided that the riding court had no jurisdiction and stripped the team medal because of a formality.
As a result the qualification for the single event was declared void and thus another medal stripped.

The German media is in a lynching mood, as nobody claims that the riders got an advantage because of the formal mistake; yet the medals were taken away. It is considered bad sportsmanship (to gain one bronze the US sued to get another team stripped of two gold).

Ahh, the beauty of the international sports lawyer fest called "Olympics". They should just go ahead and make it an official event.

5. Bad Sportsmanship?
"It is considered bad sportsmanship (to gain one bronze the US sued to get another team stripped of two gold)."

It wasn't just the USA who "sued". Great Britain and France also objected to Germany's flagrant abuse of the rules. I'm not sure what you think is "bad sportsmanship" in this sorry episode. Sport is nothing if it is not governed by rules and regulations. That the German broke them is no fault of the other competitors.

8. well, that is the point

The rider got no signal that the time was supposedly started. As a result she didn't start.
Germany did not break any rules, the lawsuits did not have the German team's conduct as subject, but the jury's.

But yes, personally I have no problem with the team decision. My bones are with the single event being tied to the team result.

On Edit:
The problem with the US suit is that both France and the UK sued to get gold. The US went along as useful idiot.

6. close to West Haven
;-)

OK: New Haven
but it really wasn't long; less than a month. It was really great: great people, great restaurants, great coast, great University.

Just Metro North...

7. Cool. I work in New Haven
and live 10 miles to the north.

Yes, New Haven is really interesting. There's really so much to do but when you're from here sometimes you take in for granted but the culture and nightlife scene is great!
