I love theirs and the Shadows of Knight's versions equally. You just know she wasn't going up there for a chat. ;)

10. Doors and Hendrix both covered Morrison's Gloria...
take your pick of the 3 version...any of them blow away the ones in your poll...sorry.

20. I never heard Hendrix' version
What album was it on? I saw Hendrix in concert in 1968 and he had a group that played ahead of him as a warm-up act called the Eire Apparent from Ireland (formerly The People, I believe) and I think they were kind of Hendrix' proteges. They did a very good version of Gloria (very very loud fuzzy guitar) which I believe was released as a single in the UK.

11. How about the Cadillacs?
They did it before the Passions, and they did it better, baby! And don't forget about Them's "Gloria" from '65. :headbang:

12. The Passions' "Gloria" is from 1960, not '58.
Just thought I'd mention it....

14. How could you leave out Enchantment's "Gloria" from..
...the mid 70's? One of the best sung R&B ballads of the decade? :(

27. But "Gloria" isn't the name of the song.
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 10:54 PM by notmyprez
It's called "Angels We Have Heard On High." Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :-)

The original, written by Van Morrison, and performed by his band Them, is still the best.

The second best version was re-done by Van himself along with John Lee Hooker on Van's "Too Long In Exile" album in 1993.
