Eggs Benedict, Bloody Marys, trailer trash and Drag Queens*
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 07:48 AM by underpants
That was my Sunday morning.
*-"Drag Queens" were also tongue in cheek-ily referred to as "Female Illusionists"

So I finally went to the famous Godfreys brunch. For five years it has been named the best brunch in Richmond (beating out the much ballyhooed brunch at "The Jefferson"). The eggs benedict was outstanding and my bloody mary was some kind of powerful strong.

This is a typical small Richmond bar/restaurant-maybe 25 feet wide and deep. We had a table because our friend got up and drove into the city to put her name on the list, those not on the list sat at the bar or up the staircase in the back-I think it is just an excuse to drink at 11AM. Really tight and I wasn't sure where the "show" was going to take place-well it took place right in the middle of the restaurant and our table was right there.

When the first "Diva" made his entrance the place went nuts. Full feather boa and dance club music. I had never been to a drag show and apparently neither had the elderly lady who left after about 10 minutes. Other than that it was a wide arrange of people.

Next to me was this already drunk Springer-friendly woman. At first it was funny but her constant jumping up and down and trying to get into the show was annoying to us (bumping the table, gut hanging over as she tried to squeeze by) and embarrassing to her kids at the table with her.

The show was hilarious and over the top. The reigning "Miss Godfreys" made her entrance from the street through the front door ("No re-entry" the sign said on the inside) but last years winner was ..........well.........devoted to his art. Being a American male growing up in the age of the VCR I have seen a few fake b**bs in my life but wherever he got them done knew what they were doing. :wow:

After his second show he LEFT out the front door in only a bikini bottom and pasties-marching right down the street (several OLD Richmond churches in the area) a sight for someone I am sure.

The MC and owner was hilarious and he went off on the drunk woman next to me ("Honey you ain't gonna win see big homo with the mic, I win now SIT DOWN") as well as the dresses of some of the women there. There is a tradition to wear the tackiest dress you can find and they WERE tacky.

Oh yeah one of the Divas was ~375 and his Cher routine was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed.

We got there at 10:30 and got home at 2 with a nice buzz working (not me I only had one) for my wife.

A morning to remember.

4. Yes it was
My wife (and the other ladies) LOVED the outfits. Big huge costumes and such. The big guy at one point had on a wig that made him about 7 feet tall.

Soemthing else.

6. In Adams Morgan?
Or whatever it is called. We never went up to DC much-don't know why we just didn't- but I did hang out in that bar district a few years ago at a business convention.

BTW- the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon city-I have never seen so many women trolling for money and power guys. Really high class hooker :wow: on the elevator (to the guy escorting her up to the penthouse-had to use a special card on the elevator) "Is this the guy from Tennessee or Alabama?" "Tennessee" "Good that guy from Alabama is a jerk"

 Hmm wonder who it was.

I live in a mobile home park and resent the term "trailer trash." Are you one of the supposedly elite who looks down their nose at those who live in mobile homes?
