I don't own cats, or any pets for that matter soI'm not sure about this... but surely this is inhumane!

1. In the summer time, when our A/C was broken, we shaved MommieCat
all over.. She has that cottoncandy texture hair that angoras have, and she would get so hot..'

She liked being all velvety and cool...

2. It's not cruel, but it's a little creepy...
How those kennel club people freak out about this kind of thing. It's a freaking cat!

7. You got hair on it?
SCNR

Well, I get annoyed by hair *inside* my nose (as I'm getting older and a little balder, hair growth shifts to new places). I hate to remove it, but would never let anyone else do it.

11. Just kidding
And I don't even want to imagine it.

Regarding nose hair, I remember someone told me Turkish barbers remove it with the aid of a burning, alcohol soaked cottons swab. Now that would really scare me!

9. With those kind of cats
you have to watch their tear ducts don't get clogged and daily brushing has to be a must. A friend of mine shaved around her Persian's anus. She had to, the hair would grow in there and the cat couldn't shit.

I wouldn't have a Persian if I could help it (I have a Siamese but he needed a home). These cats need a lot of work. I think they get used to being fooled with.

My cats would say that cutting their nails amounted to cruelty.

12. Your cats think cutting their nails amounts to cruelty,
I think what Quinn does to me if I try to cut his nails is cruelty :)

It's all a matter of perspective :)

14. I think it is cruel
to even breed animals with physical deformities. Cats with noses like that aren't natural. Neither are dogs. These deformed animals have all kinds of physical problems from the skin folds and noses that are not sufficient for breathing. Some breeds, because of inbreeding, have such allergies that their lives are hell.

The persian cats I remember as a kid had normal cat noses, although a bit wider and shorter than your average cat.

15. We've had several through the shelter
where I volunteer who had to be given water in a guinea pig water bottle (with a metal tube and a ball bearing to control water flow) because they either wouldn't or couldn't stick their faces into a bowl to drink water. Wouldn't or couldn't eat food out of a bowl, either -- had to have it given to them on a plate. I agree with you -- those poor things were miserable, always sneezing, eyes running.

They've had problems in recent years with pug dogs and their sinuses, also because of the shortened tear ducts I guess ... and purebred Pomeranians and chihuahuas can have eye trouble because they're bred to be 'pop-eyed' so they continue to look like puppies beyond their time.

Breeding for deformity and making such mutations desirable makes for some sad animals. I'm definitely with you, there.
