21. Northern Ireland is most definitely a country
so are Scotland, England, and Wales. Together those countries are the United Kingdom. And throw in Canada and Australia and you get the commonwealth.

23. or the World Cup team?
cause they are forbidden from playing on England or Ireland or Scotland.

And the queen of Northern Ireland and Canada, Australia, etc. is Queen Elizabeth.

33. Hmm
"or the World Cup team?"

Northern Ireland have their own World Cup team, as do Wales, England and Scotland. This is because they have their own Football Associations. They also have their own team at the commonwealth games as do England, Wales and Scotland.

25. according to the cia.gov site, its not a country
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 07:17 PM by ldsjocktx
England has existed as a unified entity since the 10th century; the union between England and Wales, begun in 1284 with the Statute of Rhuddlan, was not formalized until 1536 with an Act of Union; in another Act of Union in 1707, England and Scotland agreed to permanently join as Great Britain; the legislative union of Great Britain and Ireland was implemented in 1801, with the adoption of the name the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921 formalized a partition of Ireland; six northern Irish counties remained part of the United Kingdom as Northern Ireland and the current name of the country, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was adopted in 1927.

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/uk.html

The last sentence is the biggie.... the currrent name of the COUNTRY is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of this, not independent. London is the capital of the UK, so Belfast should not be part of this list.

38. Bonn
Officially it no longer has a special standing, however a few ministries (Education, Environment, Health, Agriculture and Defense) are still completely there, others were only moved in part to Berlin (especially the Chancellery and the Interior Ministry). Anyway Berlin's role as capital is not yet part of the constitution.

Also formerly state-owned companies (like the Telekom or the postal service) have their HQs in Bonn.
