20. Maine right?
Ive never been to Connecticut, my best guess is that they sound like a New York-Boston hybrid, that explains why some root for the fucking yankees and others root for the sox. They have to have an accent, I dont think I have one either but I certainly do, why you think Zack likes to call me Johnny Reb even though I have documentation at home proving my great great grandfather was from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I do say aint, etc, and when I write, I have things like "nothin", you know the g left out.

But it is true that connecticut is in a way a hybrid state that has elements of new england and mid atlantic, in a way Maryland is the same way except it has a south and mid atlantic influence. Meant no offense what so ever.

And since I'm from New Haven I don't know why anyone cares about the Sox - Yankees Baby!

It's a running joke for anyone who's ever escaped Nashville: Fundy with spinning eyes comes up to you and says "Have you heard the good news?"

And the good news, of course, is that Jesus loves you.

Anyone familiar with fundy indoctrination would recognize that joke set-up. You are SO lucky that you are not familiar with fundy indoctrination.,....

6. Only people from Oregon speak unaccented English.
Of course, British people will disagree with me.

Thing is, people do not only speak differently -- they hear differently.

Many New Yorkers hear as "southern" what I, with my southern accent, hear as neutral (western).

25. Yes, and "grinder."
When I first moved to CT I wondered what the heck a "grinder" was. LOL.

A grinder by the way is the term for what others call a sub, hoagie, hero, etc. sandwich.

As for accents, try going to Norwich. A lot of Norwich people have a distinct accent that sounds kind of like a Brooklyn, NY accent.

17. I agree
English is spoken best here in central Connecticut. ;=)

Sandwiches aren't hoagies or heros or subs or wedges, they are properly called "grinders" - and, the women married to our uncles are not those little six-legged creatures that interrupt picnics, they are "aunts".

You know another thing you have up north that's a bit of a colloquialism--tag sales. In TN, we have yard sales and garage sales, but say you're havin' a "tag sale" and everyone thinks you're selling tags.

52. I'm a Minnesotan who lived in Connecticut for eight years
You do TOO have an accent! Especially those of you who are natives of New Haven. When I came back from eight years in New Haven, people in Minnesota kept asking me where I was from.

And you have your own quaint vocabulary, too, such as "package store."

Having lived on both coasts and in the Midwest, and traveled in every other region except Alaska, my considered opinion is that EVERYONE has an accent. However, most people, no matter where they live, believe that they sound exactly like the announcers on TV.

That being said, I think the accent that is closest to that used by TV announcers is the Pacific Northwest accent.
