Everyone has an accent to someone else.
No matter what.

Except me, of course!

1. I wish I could say that about Arkansas,
but I can't. I don't have an Arkansas accent; I've lived here for 20 years and I still don't know what one sounds like.

3. I don't think so. His accent is too "clean."
The Arkansans I hear around here have far more guttural accents.

7. but you didn't learn to talk there did you?
If you learned to talk with people from the area, then you wouldn't hear their accent...

15. I did learn to talk here.
I just didn't let the eccentricities of the native pronunciation pollute my mind. :P

10. You, sir, are a LIAR!

Actually, this is my accent story:
I was born in NC but to an upstate NY father and southern Wisconsin mother. Therefore, I had no southern accent as a child. However, I grew into a slight southern accent as I was exposed to more southerners, but it is a very waek one.

That I hear people doing "Southern Accents", "California Surfer-Dude Accents", "Baawwwston Accents", "Brooklyn Accents". I never hear of anyone doing a "Lower-Penninsula Michigan Accent".

19. That would be a Troll accent...
No, not that kind of troll... I'm talking about what we yoopers used to call people that lived below the bridge.

Anyway, being born in Oklahoma City, I had quite the southern accent when my family moved to the UP. It didn't take long and I was tawkin wit dat goodol yooper aaccen tuh wit doze loooong draaaawn ou tuh words and ending each word dat had a "t" at da end with "tuh" and all, eh?

All I can say is that whenever I "do" the yooper accent, people here in Ohio where I now live say, "Hey, do that accent again, it's so cool" (or more typically they say, "Where you from ? Canada?") Yet, if I do the southern accent I had as an Okie, people think I'm just trying to act like a redneck.

Accentless speech to me is kind of bland. Kind of like the way I talk now.
