Is your Gaydar on? Does it really work?

Someone in another forum mentioned that Ricky Martin is gay. As far as I know, that hasn't been confirmed. Maybe Martin set off this guy's Gaydar.

That got me to thinking that Gaydar is not all that accurate. I don't know.
Whether or not, for example these three guys, someone is gay isn't really the point. The point is, do they set off your "Gaydar"?

3. some of my gay friends who used to party

in florida told me ricky was gay - that they'd known and hung out with him and his ex's and such.

my gaydar has 'pinged' 3 times at work. If I were a gay guy, I'd really go for one of the guys who struts like he is super hot in a gay way. However, you don't need much of a gaydar if you work with guys who dress in tight black clothes and wear silver chain links around their necks.

Michael Hall is gay because he PLAYS a gay guy on a tv show....no self-respecting ACTOR would ever play a gay man if he wasn't secretly gay...conversely a gay man could never play a straight man....give me a break!

I'm not saying Hall is Gay. I don't think he is. But apparently he's set off one of the casting gods' Gaydar. He's a pretty good actor because he's heavily identified with the role, despite the fact that he not gay.

BTW I used him as an example only because he's an easily identifiable celebrity. Gay or not gay. The question was, is Gaydar accurate? (Apparently with Hall it ain't)

I just get tired of the idea that you have to be gay if you want to play a gay character in a play or movie....Portrayals of gay-folk suck, in general. Shit like Will and Grace...make gays look like one-dimensional silly assholes...in fact it reinforces tired stereotypes. Hall's "David" character has been the best portrayal as a real human being, who happens to be gay, that I have seen on the tellie.


BTW: Ricky Martin is flaming like a Bunsen burner.;-)
