RW Christian idiot causes accident that probably totaled my truck. Grrrr
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 07:35 PM by mgdecombe
and then she wants to "pray" with me after she denies her culpability!

I am so steamed! And this happened yesterday!

Driving north on 19th Ave. in San Francisco, there are NO left turns allowed for about 3 miles. This idiot and her three friends try to make a left, stopping all traffic in the left lane. I am stopped behind her, blaring on the horn to get her to move on so I don't get rear-ended, and BAM! A guy hits me from behind, pushing me into her.

This girl is about 19 years old, and all she can say is, "God is good, God is great." When I ask her what she was thinking, didn't she see the HUGE "No Left Turn" sign at EVERY SINGLE INTERSECTION, she says that she can't talk to me about this right now, but that we should all join hands and pray.

This is a perfect example of these RW Christian LOONIES who live in a fantasy land, can NEVER accept responsibility for their actions, and expect everyone else to join in their little world.

When I refused to "pray" with her, I was suddenly persona-non-grata, and though she contributed to the total destruction of my vehicle, she NEVER apologized. When she left, without even saying goodbye, I yelled after her, "Real Christians tell the TRUTH!"

I *do* pray that every once in a while, when her guard is down, and she can't help herself, she'll remember that little phrase and realize that she's a liar.

Anyhow.... thanks for letting me unload. I'm fine, but my truck is probably a total loss, and the guy that hit me, who obviously *was* going too fast, is probably also a total loss. No one was hurt. But I'll make a wager that this little brat (19 years old) is going to try and get $'s out of my insurance company since the impact pushed me into her car. Fortunately, my insurance company will pay no claims, though I'm probably out the deductible.

What a mess.

1. The guy
should pay for the deductible, not you since it is his fault. I've rear-ended too many cars that way. I've forked over too many. Or rather, have his insurance pay for the damages or a new car.

3. Unfortunately, since the guy behind me was then rear-ended himself,
the liability is getting murky. My insurance adjuster thinks that unless somebody fesses up, I'll be stuck with the deductible.

Because (and I mean this- thank GOD- there were no injuries) they will not do a detailed investigation.

Fortunately, although we're not rich, the $500 deductible is not the hardship it might have been several years ago; we'll be ok, even if the liability can't be subrogated.

But what a pain in the ***.

2. Wow, that is very, very odd.
I hope you're okay!

Hmmm..."God is great," eh? I seem to remember that being a mantra some years back...

4. Yeah, it was very strange.
And she was really out of it.

Too bad the cops weren't willing to fill out a report.

In cases where there are no injuries, they just hang out until a tow truck shows.

6. LOL! This chick would probably cause just as much damage on a tricycle.
She was a freak. Totally out of touch with reality.

I almost plan to avoid 19th Ave. entirely, just to stay away from whatever destruction she's planning to wreak next time.

Poor thing. She'll get an eye-opening education at SFSU!

9. Sausalito, eh?
I love Sausalito! Mrs. IconCat and I went there for our honeymoon. This is how chill Sausalito is: when we got back to Chicago, people asked me if I had injured myself due to the slow rate of speed at which we walked.

If you come back, be sure to check out Caledonia Street. Even more mellow than downtown!

The best sushi on the planet at Sushi Ran, and there is not a more mellow place for breakfast than Caffe Divino.

14. If she was really out of it, I'd actually wonder if there might not be an
injury. A closed skull brain injury.

Thanks to the fact that we have far more delicate orbital bones (the bones in the skull around the eye) women more susceptible to closed case brain injury. The more delicate the bones, the sharper they are, and so basically, in a whiplash situation, a woman's brain can be essentially grated on the bones of her own skull. They're hard to detect and hard to diagnose because they can happen at speeds of under 15 miles an hour.

Further, if she was obsessing on prayer and repeating a mantra like God is great, that's a good indicator that she might have sustained some cognitive processing damage and was relying on temporal lobe damage... or then again, it might have been a temporal lobe incident that caused her to drive erratically.

Keep an eye out for that - she might try to come back at you if it comes to it.

Best,

Politicat

15. Wow, I never knew that. How many

differences are we unaware of that can affect us? (Or, if male, the women in our lives?)

I'd hope most people know that women having heart attacks rarely have the classic symptoms, often having back pain instead.

21. She had no head impact, no airbag deployment
And I'm very glad that she, nor anyone else, was seriously hurt.

Fortunately, she's just a ditz.

31. it does not take either head impact OR airbag deployment.
That's part of the reason they're so hard to diagnose and so hard to understand.

I had a client come in for what appeared to be depression and several other disorders that came on suddenly; we finally traced them to a closed case head injury that she got in a 15 MPH rear-end. She thought she was perfectly fine until she started having memory problems, temper problems, and sleeping a lot.

She may not come back entirely.

32. Thanks for enlightening me, PCat!
I had no idea that people could be injured so in a low-mileage impact.

My hope is that if any of those of us involved in the accident have a closed case head injury, we'll get help from someone like you.

Right now, it looks ok, thank goodness!

11. Believe it or not, the last guy in the rear-end pile up will get cited
and fined and be held liable. The asshole girl who caused it will get off Scot free...UNLESS everybody in the pile-up agrees that she caused the pile up by making an illegal turn.

I was in a similar accident in NJ, but the guy who made the illegal turn took off, unscathed and was never seen again. I was the last car in a 3-car pile up. The guy behind me barely avoided the accident. My car was totalled, and I was cited for not allowing enough distance. No one was hurt, and the other two cars escaped with minor scratches. My car was totalled because it was a sedan running into a high-differential SUV.

Maybe you'll have better luck in your situation.

22. Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you.
the situation sounds almost identical.

The girl actually tried to drive off at first, and I think her friends in the car stopped her. But she'll still get off scott-free and I predict that she'll try to come after me.

I can tell my adjuster is a terrier, though, and she won't pay up.

illegal left, or do something equally stupid and qualify for a Darwin award, hopefully before she contributes to the gene pool.
As long as she doesn't take anyone else out, think of it as evolution in action.

24. Sadly, I think you're right. I could tell that she didn't learn her
lesson, and never will.

I also think that there should be special rules for drivers with provisional licenses who are involved in an accident. Whether "at fault" or not, they should have to go to driving school.

I have a one hour commute, and you would not believe the stupidity I see every day. I knew one day it would hit too close to home. Lucky for me it wasn't worse.

17. I sympathize.
I was sitting at an intersection in Conway, AR, waiting to turn left. Some kid in an S-10 wheels onto the street from the intersecting street, clipping the drivers corner of the front bumper, while I was STOPPED! The police claims no fault because I was sitting in front of the stop sign. Conway Police write 'failure to yield' on the report. Even my insurance company asked, "How can you fail to yield if you're not moving?"

To add to it, the little pissant and his loudmouth girlfriend gets out and bows up at me. The girl is yelling "he hit us so hard we went into the ditch on the other side!"

That kid is lucky I didn't get just a little bit redneck, a little bit "Pope-County", and beat his ass in the middle of the street.

I hate people who can't drive.

26. I tell you, it has been my experience that police reports
are almost invariably missing important information, or just plain wrong.

Please, anyone, if you see an accident, stick around and make a statement. It could really help some one out. An objective third party is just about the only voice in a police report that can be trusted.

The delayed onset of pain from soft tissue injuries such as whiplash is a very real phenomenon.

27. Thanks. I qualified all "fine" statements with my insurance company,
as well as the claims adjuster for the guy that rear-ended me. I also told the police officer that I was stiff, which I was.

After a 1 mile swim last night, I felt great, though.

I'm watching carefully, and doing lots of stretching.

I'm going to avoid 19th & zip over to Sunset at that time of day from now on. Too many clueless folks out at that time of day. From now on, it's either 6:30am or after 8:00pm. They all seem to go home when it's dark. But then you've got to watch out for the drunk ones!

Oi!

29. LOL. It wouldn't work. According to the law, it's the guy who hit
me from behind, and he's already getting screwed enough as it is. His insurance is taking a huge hit, and unless he can prove that the lady behind him pushed him into me, he's hosed.

However, I swear that I *have* suffered emotionally cuz of the fundie girl. But then, I suffer emotionally because of the fundy Prez, too. Good luck suing either of their lame selves.

I tell you, I am so sick of the refusal to take personal responsibility!

Oh no, now I'm getting mad again!
