Poll question: Which would you get for your car?
Trunk/under-seat CD changer using FM interface and rf remote

Dash-based CD unit w/removable faceplate

Changer is more secure but whose sound quality isn't as good.

Thanks much!!

1. Changer.
There's enough road noise in your car that sound quality isn't going to be THAT big a deal.

2. in dash...
my mood for music changes within seconds... never know what I'm in the mood for, and stopping and putting in a CD that I listen to rarely would be a royal pain. Just easier to keep it in the glovebox.

3. in-dash with MP3 capability
holds the same as a 10-disk changer on a single disc. I adore mine. (The Kenwood KDC-MP222 is nearly perfect, and I got mine for less than $200 installed.)

Word I've heard is that crooks don't even bother with car stereos because the pawn value is SO low these days, so unless you live in a total crimehole, you should be OK. If you're concerned, the KDC-MP222 also has a removable face plate.

It's also Sirius ready if you're thinking about adding AirAmerica...

4. I once had a car with one of them radios in it
but then it stopped working.

Uh, seriously - trunk or under seat - get it the heck out of site, use a detachable faceplate.

5. Buy something that's not nice enough to be stolen
I've learned my lesson since I've had 4 expensive stereos stolen in 10 years, I'll never buy a nice car stereo again. I now have a cheap in dash Sony CD player that suits me just fine.

The last theft was a really nice $600 Kenwood mp3 player. The thief broke both door locks, the driver's side window, the plastic bezel on the dash and my trunk latch. Since the stereo was so nice, he though I must have amps in the back. I didn't. What a bastard.

6. Neither. Both are outdated. Get an iPod compatible stereo.
Bring your iPod with thousands of songs, just plug and go.

(with your existing stereo - $189)

New iPod-ready Alpine system:
