The thread in which we say only nice things about ducks
I like ducks. They're funny. They look funny, they walk funny, they sound funny. I want a duck. I want to raise him from a little baby so he imprints on me and follows me around everywhere and eventually I'll be known as "the guy with the duck". He will sit next to me on the couch and watch movies.

1. That's a Peking duck
and they make great pets.

Ducks are cute, but they are also territorial-and they can nip you hard!

Other than that, I like ducks!

3. some of the best fowl i've ever met were ducks.
Ducks are the best. That AFLAC duck sure represents the duck world well, don't he? But, of course, the backbone of the duck strength are the millions and millions of ducks that waddle and paddle through life with their ventures and days left unsung. They are the humble, work-a-day ducks and it is because of them that this nation, with its waterfowl, is so great.

6. I love ducks.
I've always wanted one, too.

My son recently broke the head off of his Aflack toy, and I was devestated. I'm tempted to take away all duck related toys to save further trauma on my part.

I asked my mother-in-law, who provided said duck, to send a replacement, but none is forthcoming.

13. Where to buy nice ducks
http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html

They also sell duck toys and food and whatever.

They also sell many varieties of unusual and fascinating breeds of chicken and other fowl.

Was that nice enough?

now that i think about it, when i worked at a summer camp for united cerebral palsy in the early 70's, we used to call portable urinals "ducks" because of the obvious resemblance.

Oh well, at least you spared us pictures.

The last apartment I lived in, my dining room window faced the balcony of a guy who loved to hang the ducks he shot out on the railing. Nothing more appetizing than dead waterfowl dripping just outside of your window. Simply appalling. I'm not accusing you of subjecting your neighbors in such a way, mind.

30. Don't get a Muscovy duck -- they're dumb and aggressive
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 01:29 AM by starroute
But bonnet ducks are sweet and funny-looking. And Khaki Campbells are nice. And Indian runner ducks are very bizarre.

We used to live on a farm where our landlady kept pet ducks. They were a lot of fun. (Except for the Muscovies.) They don't imprint as well as most mammals, though, so you have to work very hard when they're little if you want them to be attached to you rather than to the flock.

On edit: Indian runner duck.

33. A duck bit a kid in my class in the 'nads in fourth grade.
It was a pretty smart duck.

We were on a weekend live on a farm field trip and they had a nest of ducks near the pond. He ran up trying to get an egg and mama duck went straight for the crotch. It was magnificent. I still can't tell you how to make butter because we talked about nothing else for the entire rest of the fourth grade.
