What's your favorite foreign language album?
Lately for me its been Manu Chao's Clandestino. But I've also been listening to alot of Arto Lindsay's Portuguese stuff. And Afro-Pop, and Italian protest music. And....

What about y'all?

1. "Plant Serenade"
It's just high-pitched tones, to help your house plants thrive.

We did find out -- it's not "Bird Serenade" as well.

3. Check this out

White noise sounds that actually soothe a crying baby. As seen on The Today Show. "It really works, this is unbelievable!"

4. Well, vacuuming and car rides supposedly work,
so I don't doubt this...

However, why not just vacuum? At least you can multi-task...

6. vacuuming does not work, car rides usually
occasionally putting the baby carrier on the dryer did. Occasionally.

When y'all decide to have kids, ask me about multi-tasking and a screaming baby. Giggle. :)

16. we did the top of the dryer thing too :)
when we lived in an apartment complex it was one of the better ways to keep Ian calm when we were in the laundry room.

36. was he a screamer?
I used to walk around swinging the carrier, had him in the snuggli or the sling, etc. The dryer was the only thing that worked. Shudder. Shades of the 3-5 am screamfest. Glad those days are gone. Now it's the endless computer games... ME: "you will leave the house and go to the pool, now, you will not play games all day." :)

28. My mom was able to shut me up with vacuuming...
(and, confidential to hedges: It probably won't work now.)

I think it probably varies from kid to kid (and maybe vacuum to vacuum)...

35. true
I can only speak from my own experience. And from that standpoint, a vanilla scented candle and bird sounds will not make delivery any easier, either. :)

I just like to tease people about the multi-tasking thing, since I thought I would be able to carry on in my competent way when I had a kid (I was working the Wed. before delivery and my child arrived right on his Friday due date, just like my planner said) and you are soon relieved of that unrealistic expectation. ;)

On the other hand you can't hear what your partner is saying when you are vacumming, either.

7. Pizzicato 5
I have the Made in USA CD and a remix CD... Almost all of it J-pop, but a few tracks in English.

That counts... right?

I'd also like to add the Chobits soundtrack, it's all Japanese.

26. Alice - Il Sole Nella Pioggia
Italian Pop Diva

At various times, Alice's has recorded with Steve Jansen, Mick Karn & Richard Barbieri of Japan, Dave Gregory of XTC, Trey Gunn of King Crimson and Jon Hassell.

She's kinda disappeared and hasn't released anything since the late 90's. Very pleasing to listen to and to look at.

39. Rammstein's "Rammstein"
Includes such lovely pieces like "Rammstein" and "Hierate Mich".

I tried in vain to get a translation for the title of "Hierate Mich" and could only get the last word to translate...it means "me". No dictionary (online or hardcopy) had "Hierate". I figure it must be pretty naughty.

I mentioned the music of Rammstein on another message board and someone who knows German told me I didn't WANT to know what they are saying.... ;-)

and Einsturzende Neubauten

Amazing how good Gabriel's music is to begin with, but how much better his music is when done in German. WOW!
