Help, I'm depressed.
I am so tired of the lies & mud slinging.
I am tired of the stupidity & ignorance of so many people in this country.
I'm sick of people believing the lies because they are repeated so many times by the media that is suppose to tell us the truth.
I am disgusted with the local radio DJ (the one I listen to because it is not a clear channel station) talking up Alice Cooper because he spoke against the musicians that are against bush. Because we know only people on the right can speak their point of view.
I am depressed by the continued violence in Iraq & around the world. I am exhausted by the hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, garbage that is spewed by the right wing hacks, in the news, on TV & even here on DU.
I am feeling hopeless & helpless this morning.

Depression is wasted energy.

Might as well replenish it.

3. Gonna be okay.
I go up and down continually. Some days are good, some are bad.

Proud to support Kerry though. That keeps me going. He isn't perfect but he is a good man and I think he will be a great President.

Just hang in there. Kerry has had a rough couple of weeks but the Swift Smear appears to be starting to backfire. The next polls probably aren't going to be great, but things will get better soon. Iraq and the Economy will sink Bush. And it looks like Plame is wrapping up, so I will be interested in seeing what comes out of that ....

Also, Remember August was ALWAYS going to be the hardest month ...

4. Take a break.
Turn off the TV and the radio. Listen to your favorite piece of music. Connect with nature by taing a walk or gardening. Call or email an old friend you haven't heard from in a while.

9. You are not alone
:hi:

I have the same feeling about the same topics as you've posted. But, ever since I read the story over the weekend of the young Brit soldier, who has a wife and family, who put on his uniform then put a hose from his car exhaust into his car cabin and killed himself just days after returning from the front lines - I have beed devastated, and I weep just thinking about it (like now). I can't get it out of my mind.

I have to take a short break from "it" to regain some strength.

I am so tired of the lies & mud slinging.

It's campaign season and we are in the last leg of a long and angry race. It won't last.

I am tired of the stupidity & ignorance of so many people in this country.

And how. But, think about all the people you know and are friends with that don't fit this description. Think of all the people in the pictures at the Kerry rallies. Think of all the people who will walk past the row of shouting, sign waving, Bush supporting bafoons at your polling place, and vote for John Kerry.

Think of all the writers, artists, musicians, and scientists that also call themselves Americans.

We progressives are not as vocal but we are the majority.

I'm sick of people believing the lies because they are repeated so many times by the media that is suppose to tell us the truth.

Screw the media. They aren't supposed to tell us anything anymore other than what to buy during commercial breaks. News media is a commerical enterprise now. Get your news from the web and turn off the TV.

I am disgusted with the local radio DJ (the one I listen to because it is not a clear channel station) talking up Alice Cooper because he spoke against the musicians that are against bush. Because we know only people on the right can speak their point of view.

Just because Alice Cooper is a republican doesn't make him any less of a classic rock and roller. I still enjoy his music. But that doesn't mean I want to sit down and discuss his politics. Let the right have their showcase stars, believe me they need them more than we do.

I am depressed by the continued violence in Iraq & around the world. I am exhausted by the hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, garbage that is spewed by the right wing hacks, in the news, on TV & even here on DU.

TV generally plays to the lower common denominator, so for most mainstream hollywood movies. There is a cultural shift though. Were there positive portrayals of homosexuality on TV 15 years ago? Maybe, but nowhere near as many as now. Same with movies.

As for DU, we mods are trying. Just keep alerting and we'll keep policing. You aren't responsible for what other people post on an Internet Message Board. Remember, The Internet is like a giant pair of sunglasses, people can say virtually anything behind a wall of anonymity. Don't worry about them. We all see stuff that pisses us off, but how we choose to deal with it determines how happy our day goes. If you dwell on the garbage, your day tends to smell. Consider the vast majority of well thought, well written, well received posts here and realize that the lifespan of the ones that piss you off is probably a whole lot shorter than the others. If we mods don't get them, they fall off the board pretty quickly.

I am feeling hopeless & helpless this morning.

Get a cup of coffee, or tea, take a deep breath, and remember that you are a special and unique person, then do something that you know will bring you joy and fulfillment for a while to recharge your batteries.

There is always hope.

I feel inspired! Great peptalk. I do think that people tend to focus on what appears to be the general view of things, but it isn't. America is not a right-wing country and God is not a Republican.

14. I understand
Things can seem a bit out of control here and there and if you pay it too much attention it will overwhelm you. The fact is, there are many great things happening in this world of ours and sometimes you just have to seek them out.
It's not against the law to let your brain soak in some nonsense once in a while also. For example, I used to hate the television, and some people still look at it as junk for the brain. They are correct, and I have found this out. People make fun of me when I sit at home and watch stupid sit-coms or some other "waste of time" crap on the TV. The thing they don't understand is that I spend a lot of time thinking about too many "heavy" issues and so I spend some time watching the idiot box just to clear my mind of the sadness that is being shoved down out throats everyday. Go rent some Little Rascals, or watch some TV Land, find some stupid nonsense to watch and relax.
Take a break from the news, DU, Micheal Moore, politics and other things that are depressing you and enjoy some simple thoughts. Take a walk in the park, stare at the clouds, do some crosswords, build a puzzle, read some Mad magazines, listen to tunes and dance around the house...do something fun. Don't let all this get to you, life isn't any worse than it's ever been...it's just more noticeable.
I hope you get out of your funk soon and hang in there..life is easy when you just breathe. Take care....

24. I've been really stressed all week too...
All that swift boat crap *really* got me upset last week & I finally got a grip on it yesterday. And watching CNN didn't help at all. I was getting waaaay out of balance.

I watched Daily Show last night & I'm starting to feel better again.. hang in... we're almost there :)

Your situation is one I find myself in as well somtimes. Hopefully it won't last too long. Recently I realized I was getting pretty burnt out, so I decided to take some time off so I'd be refreshed for GOTV efforts before the election. Perhaps you might consider doing something like that to give yourself a break from the stress.
