An accountant accused of trolling the Montrose area for homeless teenage boys he could pay to perform sadistic sex acts is back in jail after violating the conditions of his bail, police said Tuesday.
Investigators said James Michael Broomas, 50, was spotted near Montrose with a child, two acts that break the terms of his bail agreement. Broomas surrendered to police Tuesday shortly after learning of the charges.
Broomas, who police say is known on the streets as "Spanky," was seen at a Burger King on Westheimer with a boy last week, said Matt Dexter of the Houston Police Department's juvenile sex crimes division.
A caller recognized Broomas from a photograph published in a newspaper after he was arrested in July, police said.
Broomas was charged last month with indecency with a child, accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old boy in 1999. His next court date was scheduled for Aug. 31.
The Baytown accountant was released on $10,000 bail and told by the court not to go within 200 yards of the intersection of Montrose and Westheimer, where police say he prowled for runaway boys.
The restaurant is in the 1000 block of Westheimer, about 180 yards from the prohibited intersection, Dexter said.
"This is surprising," he said. "He has a pretty reputable attorney who I would imagine advised him to keep his nose clean."
State District Judge Carol Davies also barred Broomas from possessing pornography and having contact with anyone younger than 18.
Broomas' attorney, Chip Lewis, said Tuesday that Broomas was incorrectly identified. He also admonished the court for revoking Broomas' bail without a hearing, which he said is a standard procedure.
