Anti choice truck seen in Clayton, MO during the lunch rush hour
I was sitting in Clayton, MO (a suburb of St Louis) during the lunch hour, when thousands are out and about, and what do I see? A truck the size of a U Haul bearing pictures of aborted fetuses....I was shocked!

I could not find pics of the truck except on an antichoice site but here is the URL...

2. Yeah that truck was in Iowa
a couple of weeks ago. I did not have the misfortune to see it, thankfully, but they interviewed the guy on the local news and he said"it's the most effective way to get the message out". A lot of people here were very disturbed by it. Glad he only stuck around for two days, but wish he wouldn't have showed up at all.

3. Try living in a state with pro-life liscence plates.
But then too what can you expect out of Missouri, the Show-Me-yours- I-will-show-you-mine state.

5. As a Missourian from 1973 until 2003....
All my life save the past 15 months, that is, I am well versed in what Missourians are like. Outside of KC, St. Louis, and maybe Columbia, the state is full of nutty fundievangeicals, racists and homophobes. Sure, not EVERYONE is that way, even in the wackiest area of the state. But the sensible are the vast minority. Rural Missouri, and much of suburban Missouri is Missourian Rush Limballs' wet dream.

7. I too have noticed that there are a lot of people "from" Missouri
Missouri is a pretty stagnant state. 100 years ago, Missouri meant something as a state, poliically, economically, etc. There were only a few states with more people. Now it just sort of sits there in the middle of the country doing very little.

8. OK, when put that way...
It just looked like from your first post it was a generic slam. I get you now. However, I now live in Georgia, and in many ways it's worse.

9. Agreed.
Lived in Kansas City from 1962 - 1973. Left as soon as I could. It's pretty, but very parochial and sheltered, with small-minded folks who don't realize how small-minded they are.

10. Hey with as many problems as there are in the St Louis area
for me St Louis is an improvement. I grew up in Springfield, Illinois and could not wait to leave that Republican cesspool. St Louis is not perfect but I have found a community of like minded people. Progressive thinking people can't all live in California or Vermont. Missouri needs us too!

11. It was probably the one that was at the Kerry rally earlier this month.
I'm a native St. Louisan. Aside from the Cardinals, I feel very little allegiance to my city/state. Definitely getting the hell outta here for college.

12. There was an article in Rolling Stone a few weeks ago...
About some crazy fundie going around with a truck harassing people who work at Women's Health Clinics. He sends their neighbors postcards every day for like a week telling them to ask them to quit their job at the clinic because they are horrible persons. It's really intense insanity, these people need a real job.

15. I have gotten about a hundred "Please save the unborn" postcards
from antichoice people. And one of my supporters has a neighbor with a plate on their car that says "I am a child not a Choice" with a full term baby.

14. You probably should not provide that link.
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 01:31 AM by UdoKier
Personally, I am only marginally "pro-choice". I find the practice abhorrent and would hope for it to be as rare as possible. I just can't go so far as favoring the criminalization of abortion. It is something that has been a necessity for women for hundreds of years, not just recently.

However, as a parent of 2 kids, grisly photos like those in their slideshow have a profound effect on me, and threaten to even sway me.

Better to just paste in the photo of the truck, rather than the link.

But use your own judgment. I generally try to avoid the abortion issue. It's so far from the top of my priority list. I think we have so much to do for already-born kids before we worry about the fetuses.

Here's the image so people don't have to go to the link.

16. I've heard about this before
Someone on another messageboard posted about it. I find it abhorrent the lengths the anti-choice faction will go to in order to promote their agenda.

I don't believe in widespread use of abortion, particularly use of abortion as birth control. I believe it should be used sparingly, but that it should be available as a safe option to women.

Perhaps the gun-control lobby should drive around huge trucks with pictures of victims of drive by shootings, domestic gun violence and the like. Everyone needs to see blood soaked, bullet-riddled bodies, don't you think? Dead little toddlers caught in the crossfire of gang wars would be particularly effective, no?
