RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A man who claimed his wife committed suicide by shooting herself three times - once in the back - was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for murder.

Eric Rose, 46, was convicted in May. He maintained his innocence at sentencing, saying: "It's very hard for me to show remorse for a crime I did not commit."

Prosecutors argued that Rose killed his wife, Wendy, in 2002 to collect $500,000 in insurance.

Wendy Rose, 53, suffered a gunshot wound to the head, a graze wound to the head and another wound in her back.
