Babycakes - the world's toughest cat

There's this cat that hubby and I met last year. We were sitting in our backyard when suddenly I felt something rubbing up against my leg. It was an orange male shorthair cat and he was BIG. I petted him for a while and he jumped right up into my lap. He was scabby and his coat was rough, and he had no collar. I said, "You're so sweet, I'm going to name you babycakes." A few minutes later, sweet babycakes decided he had had enough and he suddenly and viciously clawed the crap out of my arm and ran off. Alright, babycakes. See ya later.

Well, he showed up again a few nights ago ... nearly a year later! He was no longer scabby, his coat looked good, but still no collar. Again, he was so friendly it was amazing, but this time I was a bit more careful. Didn't even let him climb on me and I petted him cautiously. My Golden Retriever came to the screendoor and began whining about our petting a 'stranger'. Well, babycakes HURLS himself at the screendoor in such a way that made it clear that he was ready to claw the dog's face clean off. He was pasted to the screen by all four feet - no hissing though. He just wanted to show pup who was boss. We decided it was time to go inside and leave babycakes to run amok elsewhere.

which is why he reacts to things thinking he's being attacked but isn't.

3. Some cats are weird

Usually they've been mistreated when they act like that. My neighbors one time had a big black cat who was like that. He would come up to be petted and then bite the shit out of me! But he finally calmed down. I think he needed attention but when he received it he sort of freaked out.

4. When I Was Just a Lad, We Had a Black Cat Named Midnight

He was one tough mother. Our neighbor's German shepherd, a mean-spirited beast, escaped from their backyard and came bounding at Midnight. Our cat launched himself, landing on top of the dog's head, clawing and biting, as the dog ran blindly around the corner of the house. I don't know what happened next, but a short time later I saw the dog running down the street with his tail between his legs, yelping at the top of his lungs. The cat was a short distance behind, back arched, 'bouncing' after the dog like Pepe Le Pew. The dog got out of their yard on several other occasions, but he never came our direction again.

6. LOL. . . great story. We had a big cat named Smokey

when i was a kid.

We lived in a farm community, and our neighbor down the street had chickens (we always bought fresh eggs from her).

One day, while sitting in the living room watching TV, we heard a horrendous noise coming from the bathroom. We rushed in only to find Smokey coming through the window with the neighbors rooster in tow, still very much alive.

Now, I don't know how many of you have ever dealt with an angry rooster, but it's not easy, they're mean little bastards. Of course a huge tom cat that weighs more than the rooster is just as dangerous.

We finally had to run a hose through the window and spray the cat down before he backed off.

We waited 'til dark and snuck the rooster back down to the neighbors yard :).

5. kitties do that sometimes

Wild male cats especially. We have a "porch" cat that we feed who is fearless of our big dogs, but only because it established early on that it wasn't on the menu.

The porch cat likes to be petted -- but only for a bit. He'll usually get kind of jerky if he's had enough, and the couple of times he's "scratched" or "bitten" have been warning bites and swats - not enough to draw blood. I respect that some are wild and that's just the way they are. I have another calico who has "moved in" - she's really part Koala bear and part jabba the hut. Doesn't like to be picked up but her preferred escape method is to become completely boneless and drain out of your grasp rather than aggressive.

She actually sleeps with the big dogs outside in their air conditioned butt hut.
