Computer Geeks: Question
How come I've always been able to listen to streaming audio at work, and now it only plays for 10 seconds and then is "buffering" for another 5 minutes. Then it plays for 10 more seconds and "buffers" another 10 minutes. IT really sucks.

I've tried Windows Media and Real Player, with IE and Mozilla browsers. Nothing is working. What am I doing wrong?

You need to do one of two things:
Either set your buffer to a larger size or a smaller size. In other words, experiment.

3. Many possibilities
Plain old congestion - link is being more heavily used lately.

Bandwidth control - non-work-related services are being relegated to lowest priority, so everytime someone sends a big e-mail, the music dies.

Cost cutting - the compani reduced their bandwidth to pay less.

Without you being the sysadmin, there's no way of knowing.

5. while I agree with the previous response
things to consider

Connection ? DSL, Cable Modem, Dialup /
How old is your 'puter ?
How much memory have you installed ?

Beyond that,
I use Macs - and am on a DSL wireless network at home.

I would not do that at work.

6. Does your sysadmin know you're listening to streaming audio at work?
I'd have you taken out and shot.

Apparently there's this wireless device that allows you to listen to streamed audio. It's called a radio.

7. you're not doing anything wrong. . .
most likely, more people are using the internet connection and eating the bandwidth.

I'm an IT manager, and I know, for instance, that I'll have problems with streaming audio at 9:30 every morning because I have half the company updating the virus definitions from Symantec at that time.

It just means there's more traffic.
