I meant to share this little story
Last night, after fucking around on DU. I started the walk home. It was dark out, and a shortcut to my apartment is through a dark field area. So, I stopped, had a good look to make sure there were no bears. And continued. Halfway throught the walk, I noticed something wasn't right. When my eyes adjusted I found myself standing ten feet away from a deer. It didn't flinch (I did cause I was worried it may be a buck).
We stood there looking at each other for a second, it kept eating. Then I just walked away.
It was an interesting understanding.

4. i've had a similar experience with an elk
it seems to me that the closer you are when you stumble upon deer/elk/food, they less skittish they are.

7. ive had a similar experience
riding to my friend's house on a bike late one night. RIght before i got to his house I heard the clip-clop of hooves. WTF? I look up and there's a huge deer with giganto-horns standing in the middle of the cul de sac staring at me like "WTF".

an interesting side-note. When Aztec scouts first encountered Spanish horseman, they described to their fellow Aztecs the creatures the Spanish rode as huge, ferocious deer. They described the Spanish mastiffs that accompanied the horsemen as tall jaguars.
