Did I just do something wrong?
We heard on the Scanner there was a deer hit by a car and it was thrashing around and needs to be put down.
My reporter asked if she should go, I said no at first then thought about all the deer dying this way because fuckwads draw them into town with free food.
And I said, "well, maybe but if you don't want to, don't worry about it."
She decided to go.
I just breifly thought maybe a photo like that would drive something home to the people here.

I don't know, your thought?

1. Sounds fine to me
Deer populations explode when folks build houses where they didn't before. Predators move out. I think it could be a good piece, tell her to get a comment from a wildlife official about it.

I've turned into a scanner junkie at work lately... local cops laughed when I pulled up to a truck rollover, saying "Damn, Jimmy Olsen beat the lawyers!!" :D

2. I don't think it's wrong
But deer struck by cars is pretty common up in your neck of the woods, isn't it? I'm thinking that it might not have that great of affect on people to see another deer killed by a car. But you never know. Maybe you could put something in the story about how feeding the deer is encouraging them to come into the community and people will take note and stop doing it.

3. Car/Deer accidents are a big problem here in ME
The rule is if you hit one and don't kill it with the impact, you have to wait until a Police Officer/Warden comes along to put it down.

Once the deer is dead, you have the choice of either keeping it or donating the remains to a poor family or food bank.

4. I don't think you did anything wrong. I hope it has at least a little bit
of an effect. Judging from attitudes here in MI about deer/car accidents, I am cynical. But we can always try. :hi:
