I'm depressed tonight
And listening to "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" by the Smiths has probably not been helping.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Saturday night Lounge activities.

1. so am I
I'm going back to Boston for school this Friday...my ex-boyfriend is picking me up. I know I still love him...he's been calling/IMing/e-mailing me all month...I'm so confused.
I saw "Garden State" and am just crying.
Argggghhhh........

It's weird how some things can set you off
Just got off the phone with a friend; he was down too.

Kind of had a weird argument with my mother earlier today. I'm just fragile right now and the weirdest little things can set me off. It's been a very sad week around DU. :(

21. The CD single of "Fascination Street"...the 9 minute extended remix
...that one grand, slammed guitar chord at the 1:46 mark...the chord that melts into a single, feedback-drenched note before ripping into the main riff 20 seconds later...a little more "extended remix" teasing, and at the 3 minute mark riff comes back and the song becomes my shelter from whatever storm surrounds me at the moment.

Youth, Sponge, all of ya...I salute you.

11. Well, I'm just pulling out of a crying jag.
Sounds like a great evening all around.

Find something to do. Find something to appreciate. I like the Mud Prayer (I'm so blanking on the author) which is about what a privilege it is to be sentient.

And it's a plus not to be in Iraq or Darfur or a veteran's hospital(unless, of course, you are).

Or you could ransack your cabinets for anything with chocolate as an ingredient.

14. Yes, clearly I'm fortunate to not be in Iraq
Or to have any friends or relatives over there. Or that I'm not in Sudan. I'm just still dealing with the vestiges of my grief, and I'm having a hard time going through my late husband's things. I have to, because his room with all of his records and CDs was flooded and I have to have the paneling taken off and the floor redone.

It's been very hard to go through all of his stuff. It was hard enough sorting through his clothes. Last week I found a pair of boots of his and that set me off too. He's been dead 10 weeks today. I keep thinking that one of these days I'll feel better.

23. That is tough.
My favorite cousin died on March 17. As executor, I was responsible for going through her things. She was bedridden and I found a little box filled with handwritten prayers. That stuff can break your heart. Occaisionally, I would find something that would make me laugh and that helped.
It will get better. The grieving part is a real bitch sometimes, though.

The sun'll come out tomorrow,
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there’ll be sun
Just thinking about tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow till there’s none

When I'm stuck with a day that's gray and lonely
I just stick out my chin and grin and say--------------!

The sun'l1 come out tomorrow,
So you got to hang on till tomorrow, came what may!

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow
You’re always a day away...

43. Of course I found it immediately after posting that
A PRAYER FOR THE DYING

God made mud.

God got lonesome.

So God said to some of the mud, ‘Sit up!’

‘See all I’ve made,’ said God, ‘the hills, the sea, the sky, the stars.’

And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around.

Lucky me, lucky mud.

I, mud, sat up and saw what a nice job God had done.

Nice going, God!

Nobody but You could have done it, God! I certainly couldn’t have.

I feel very unimportant compared to You.

The only way I can feel the least bit important is to think of all the mud that didn’t even get to sit up and look around.

I got so much and most mud got so little.

Thank you for the honor.

Now mud lies down again and goes to sleep.

What memories for mud to have!

What interesting other kinds of sitting-up mud I met!

I loved everything I saw!

Good night.

16. I'm feeling burned out
The Repulsive convention thing and all the crap they threw at Kerry etc and blech. I'm sick of it and want to kick chairs. In fact, I was on the computer this afternoon and completely forgot about The Guy James Show. You know how it is when you know you're forgetting something? When I realized it, I only felt worse. But will listen at White Rose tomorrow. Nate Clay is coming on in a minute.

To cheer myself up I watched the IFC channel all evening. Two great documentaries. One about Akira Kurosawa and another about Frazetta, the fantasy artist. Now I'm back and see things are kind of quiet and other people feeling poopy, too. It was bound to catch up with us for a day.

34. I'm a closet Woody Allen fan
I know he's scum. But in Bananas, when they order deli delivery and the guys deliver wheelbarrels filled with cole slaw to the guerilla camp, it lays me out.

Another one I really love is Manahttan Murder Mystery. Alan Alda is so right. And the colors of the movie are lovely, too. So, do watch Sleeper and I know you'll laugh over the scene with the giant vegetables. Btw, I pass that futuristic house often since it's not all that far up I70. It recently went up for sale again.

55. Remember that it will pass. It definitely will. Tomorrow's another day.
The start of a new day. Try to think of something fun or interesting to do tomorrow to celebrate the new day.

Exercise helps depression (endorphins), plus it just makes you feel healthier.

I don't know if you're male or female, but a relaxing facial helps me sometimes, as does a new outfit. Washing my hair and looking my best helps. A new haircut? Going to the spa and sitting in the whirlpool and sauna is nirvana.

Think of the people who have more problems than you do...those who have mental or physical challenges, those who were abused as children, etc., etc. Think of all the things you have going for you. Do you have family? A couple of friends? That's more than many people have. Does someone love you? If so, you are lucky, indeed. And I'm sure there's a good reason they love you. I don't know what the problem is, but it WILL get better. They say if you act a certain way, then you end up feeling that way. Wake up tomorrow, greet the new day with confidence and a smile, and by the end of the day, maybe you'll actually feel that way inside. I've heard that happiness is more a state of mind than events that happen to someone, and now that I'm older, I believe that. There's a Roger Miller song that says, "But you can be happy if you've a mind to." And I believe that's true. If someone is causing your unhappiness, don't give someone else that power over you. Show them you're in control of the situation and that you have moved on from his/her unimportant behavior. If it's general depression, then realize that it will definitely pass. If it's clinical depression, then get ye to a doctor and get medication for that. That's what I hear is needed for that, anyway.

Let us know how things are tomorrow.

Funny, I was feeling depressed too, and I was at a party supposed to be having a good time. Worst possible place to feel sad, because people ask what's wrong and I can't explain.

I hope yours has passed flamingyouth. May I just say that I have always loved your screen name, and your avatar is simply the perfect image for it. One of the best on all of DU. A fan/scholar of the 1920's (its literature) here.
