Use this address to access the account with best results. https://gmail.google.com/gmail Also too, if your invitation doesn't show up right away, check your bulk or junk mail folders. Some email providers send the invitations there and you have to hunt it down.

2. I've had problems with Gmail

Just so you know: I've had mail sent to me and never received, and mail with attachments not come through... often.

I'm keeping my account for future use, after they get the bugs out. It has some good features. But for now, I stick with Yahoo mail.

I haven't had any problems but its good to know. I hope you sent them feedback on the problems so they can work on them. I've done it a few times and have always received help right away on how to fix it.

8. Wasn't there some kind of Gmail boycott happening?

I remember people saying how users emails would be stored by Google, and that their new privacy statement basically allowed the Government to go through that data whenever it wanted to.
Or something like that.

Yes, Google will be targeting you with ads based upon keywords that it will harvest from your email.

If people don't understand why that's bad, then there's little hope for them.

12. There are ads along the right side

just like when you use google as a search engine. They do not send junk mail to your account, just posting it along the side. You can click it or not, or read it or not. I don't know what top security emails you are sending, but the bulk of my emails turn up no keywords at all to use for ads.
