It's decided: I'm ordering an '05 Mustang GT
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 11:57 AM by CanuckAmok
My divorce will be settled by the time they are available in Canada, so that's my divorce present.

Some mods planned for the new toy: Dark Highland Green with all badging removed, useless stock GT rear spoiler removed, black leather interior w/all options, GT lights removed to plumb ductwork to the Eaton supercharger ( :D ), limited slip Precision Gears rear end (haven't decided on the ratio yet), lower suspension by 1 inch in front, a half inch in the rear, and roll it on black Torque Flite Wheels. If I get really brave, I'll take it to my buddy's body shop and have a custom turn signal hood made to match the 68, and do something with the quarter windows...

Basically, it'll look like the 2005 version of McQueen's 68 Bullit Fastback:

So, it'll be this car:

With treatments borrowed from this look:

on edit: this will be my first new car, ever!

1. Sweet! Makes me wish I had money and mechanical skills!
:D

I'd do something with the Mustang in my driveway. Like...buy it and make it cooler.

5. oh yes you can..
if you got about $6000 you can drop a modified 302 ford v/8 and modify the supension/tires rims to give that mustang a run for it`s money...

7. Nope, I'm untouchable...
where I'm moving, I'll be able to walk five minutes to work most days, so the 'Stang will stay in the garage except for fun. I'll probably log less than 3000 miles per year.

And it's Union-built. Beat that!

...exhaust, so the holier than thou "Honda Pious" set are going to give me a hard time about my extra four cylinders, I'm sure...

9. Good for you
I am also looking at the 2005 mustang. My 23 year old daughter just bought her first "new" car and it was the 2004 mustang but she got such a good deal.

Sometimes you just have to do something nice for yourself. Enjoy and take pictures of her when you get her home.

10. I, too, am shopping for a new ride.
I turned my '94 toyota truck over to my youngest son last month, at 215,000 miles. He'll get another 100- 150,000 out of it. I'm currently driving my older son's '97 Civic; he doesn't need it for a couple of months.

I wanted a new version of my old faithful truck, so went shopping for a '04 Tacoma. My credit union has a program that will deliver me the vehicle, brand new, of my choice, with aftermarket additions, for dealer cost (+ aftermarket stuff). They drive it right to the door and hand me the keys. But...there are hardly any Tacomas left out there this late in the year. We were having trouble finding one with my specs. I was all ready to wait for the '05, when I discovered that they've made some radical changes that I don't want. So, it looks like I'll be getting my '04 with one compromise...color.

I wanted white or silver; it's way too hot in the desert for a dark color. The only truck we can find with my other requirements that is not black is a maroonish color. So it looks like my new truck will look like this:

Congratulations; may the new rides give many miles of comfortable, safe, efficient service!

:toast:

11. I have a '92 4Runner now...
You can't go wrong with a Toyota truck. I've had five Toyotas, and I drove an ancient Land Cruiser when I was with the UN. It had over a million miles on it and ran like a (admittedly rusty) top.

13. That's my experience, too.
The one I just turned over to my son was my 2nd; the first did 350,000 miles; the last 4 years with my sons in high school. The last miles were the hardest. ;-)

The new '05 Tacoma is moving in the direction of a mid-size rather than a compact truck. Not as fuel efficient, and more of a street/sport truck.

I like my little truck the way it is; I don't want it bigger or beefier. It does everything I need it to do but haul my horses. If I were going to get a bigger truck, I'd get a full-size 3/4 or 1 ton that would haul the horses.

This new '04 will last me until we've got hybrid and other fuel efficient cars and big trucks for hauling horses; another decade ought to bring us a lot more choices.

Your mustang pics (older cars) remind me of my childhood. My mom drove a '69 cougar, while my friend's mom drove a '68 mustang. Those are the cars that went with us to the dmv for our licence and on to high school driving.

18. I don't understand the direction they're taking...
They already have the Tundra, so why make the Taco any bigger?

And they new 100 Series Land Cruiser is just a pavement princess; they've bred all the workhorse out of it, what with IFS, very little ground clearance, and a drivetrain which can't be repaired under real-world conditions.

I don't get it...but I guess they have experts who know more about what the pblic wants than I do  .

19. They have plans to make the Tundra bigger, too.
While it's not a compact, it's still been a "light" truck. They're talking about a 3/4, and possibly 1 ton version in the near future.

Everything's getting bigger while oil reserves are getting smaller; I hope their working on alternate ways to fuel these things!

My vehicle has to be a workhorse, and my little trucks have done the job superbly. More miles, with less maintenance, decent fuel efficiency, and never been stuck or stranded. In 2015, I'll be looking for the same.

Must handle dirt roads, mud, sandy washes, snow, and flooded streets with no problem. Room to haul all sorts of things. With my last truck, I hauled hay, dirt, rocks, and water as well as using it to move boxes, furniture, appliances,etc.. Cannot break down frequently or wear out easily. My trucks have been the timex' of vehicles; I hope there will be something out there to do the same if they are "obsolete" the next time around!

23. I'm jealous
You know every man from my Dad's generation owned some bitchin' car when they were young (my dad personally owned a 1968 Mustang). I had a 1995 Ford Taurus SHO when I started driving, which was kind of hot. But I've been thinking about how I could get my hands on one of those 2005 Mustangs, so I can tell my kids about my wicked sweet car from my youth.

I think I'll wait for a used one. In yellow :)

Peter has a mid-life crisis. Buys a little red sports car. Drives it repeatedly through a tunnel.
