1. The day before I moved into my dorm to start college...
grandmother had a heart attack. We stayed up all night at the hospital. In the morning she was in a coma. The doctor said that there was no chance of recovery. We had to get me stuff moved. Mom and I went down to the University (about 14 miles away) and unloaded my stuff in the room. Along the way I saw a highschool buddy and he said "aren't you excited to be starting?" I started to tear up and said "My grandmother is dying today." and sobbed a couple of times. Mom and I drove back home and dad told us that the hospital had called and that grandmother had died while we were moving

5. It was always the hottest day of the year
I remember moving in. It was always late august, and it was always 95 degrees. Damn New England summers.

I moved into the Northeastern U dorm back in 93 on a street that was a popular spot for drug dealers to live on and prostitutes to hang out at. There was no orientation before movein day and I had only been on campus one time the previous winter. I moved in on a saturday, started classes tuesday. It was an interesting way to start school...not knowing anyone and not knowing where anything was!

Plus my roommate turned out to be a major prick. I moved into another room at Xmas time, where the other two inhabitants proceeded to psychologically assassinate each other to win the affections of a psycho chick who played them off each other. From the frying pan to the fryer...

7. How about a college parent DUer?
Took our daughter to NYU on Saturday. Very easy getting into NYC - three hours door-to-lunch after move-in from Philly. Getting out was another matter - goddamn repukes have the city really cheneyed. Actually found a parking space on Washington Square Park, though - twice.

One suggestion for colleges - provide kleenixes for crying parents.

As for my own, too many years ago to clearly remember. But Saturday did bring up memories of the excitement and adventure of it all. To you present-day college DUers, enjoy this time. Take full advantage of every opportunity.

9. OK, since you asked nicely...
I moved into a dorm my freshman year, and parked in a no-parking zone to unload my car, just like everyone else. One problem, I actually decided to rest up after lugging my crap up four flights of stairs, and ended up falling asleep. D'oh! When I got up, my car had been towed. Welcome to college. :dunce:
