Need advice about internet banking
Does anyone here do all their banking on the internet? Have you had good or bad experiences wth customer service with an internet-only bank? Is it a pain to deposit checks or get cash from an ATM?

1. internet banking
I do all my banking through First Internet Bank
(www.firstib.com), and keep track of my money with Quicken.
They have yet to charge me any fees (except for one order of
checks).

I use anyone else's ATM, FIB reimburses me up to $6/month for
fees. To deposit checks, I have to mail them in. But my
paychecks are direct deposit anyway. I use the free bill
payment service for most of my bills, and that doesn't even
involve checks.

My experiences with FIB have been entirely good.

Welcome to DU !
:hi:

My husband banks online, and although it has had to be "tweaked" a couple of times, he hasn't had any problems.
I'm not doing it, though.

5. "tweaked"?
Could you possibly expand upon that? Thanks in advance.

8. He pays utility bills online
and a couple of the payment due dates had to be changed to better coincide with his Social Security direct deposit. It had to do with the utilities rather than the bank itself.

3. I use Bank of America.
They have free on-line bill pay. It is great. I have direct deposit of my paycheck. And if I have to deposit any other checks, there are branches just about every where, so it is convenient.

6. I have done most of my banking
online with Merrill Lynch for years. I recently opened an account with Everbank.com. It is a virtual bank, no branches, and so far (about three months) they have been excellent. Good service when you call and good interest rates. Well better than the rest anyway.

7. Welcome to the 21st century!
I've been using it since 1999 and haven't looked back.

Here in Canada internet transactions tend to be totally free if you have a minimum balance of $1,000 or $2,000. Luckily that's no problem for me so I never pay a dime for the excellent service. I've got the works set up. Mortgage, collateral line of credit, high interest savings account, etc. It's amazing and it's without fees. I'm sure you guys must have similar deals at your banks. What I figure it that the uninformed folks pay all the high fees (hence the huge banking profits), while the smart consumers get great service at no/low cost.

Make sure you get set up with a bank that gives you access to free ATM transactions and lots of ATMs available to aviod those disgusting fees. My bank ( Bank of Nova Scotia) has an raangement with Bank of America and I don't have to pay fees in the US at B of A ATMs.
