A friend of mine is starting a business: Calling it "The Hungry Neck."
This person is 50 years old and has been in the Nursing Home Supply business for 15 years. He was downsized and wants to do "consulting business for nursing homes" being a "broker" for hospital beds, diapers and other stuff."

His former company was involved in that business but got bought out by the "big guys." He thinks he can now go to Nursing Homes as a "consultant" and give them a better deal with his experience by sorting through all the companies selling these products.

The name of his company "Hungry Neck" set me "teeth on edge...and made me want to barf..."

BTW he said his company is named after the area he lives in SC which in historical times is called "Hungry Neck" so he named his business after where he lives as a history buff.

I think this is too gross for words...and as my own dad is in a Nursing Home...I think if someone came to me with a business card saying "Hungry Neck Nursing Home Product Sales" I would kick them out the door real fast.

But...maybe I'm behind the time? Wondered what you "lounge folks" would think of the name of this consulting business for a guy whose been thrown out of work but still has one kid left he has to put through college now that he's downsized.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!...I'm serious about this....really..I thought "lounge" would be a good place to post this because frankly I think calling any company that isn't into "Porn" ..."Hungry Neck" leads one to total ridicule and considering he's selling Nursing Home products makes me get hives.

But, the guy is the nicest guy you'd want to know, and maybe he's so "feaked out" about his "downsizing/layoff" that he's just gone "over the edge" and doesn't understand this name of his company is really weird...or maybe it isn't? Maybe it's just me and hubby who think it's a terrible name...but how do we tell him that?

1. Is he selling medical supplies too?
If so -- a company selling tube-feeding supplies should not be called "Hungry Neck." I don't advise it for a company selling...much of anything, actually (maybe jewelry).

2. Good Point...I'm trying to find opinions like this to tell him...because

he specifically asked my husbands opinion...and my husband doesn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him it's an awful name.

Your comment is light... if he wants to be in "jewelry business"...a good one...thanks!

Yes, and he wants to sell/broker medical supplies to Nursing Homes. I guess he thinks from his experience he can "broker a best deal" for supplies.

4. ROFL...you make a good point...but how do we let this guy know that
what you and I and poster #1 think about this dreadful name being so terrible ...without trashing his ego?

I know my post sounds like a joke...but it's really serious. When one has been thrown out of work because of downsizing or in his case a company sell out where he was cut out...because of age? whatever.. and he still has a kid he has to get through college and another one he has to support who can't get a job, who finished college...How do I tell this guy his name for his company considering the audience he's targeting sounds like a "jewelry company or a "feeding tube" start up or as I really think...the name of a company selling porn products!

Hungry Neck! And this guy has a degree in Marketing FGS!

I think if I can get enough posts for a sample maybe hubby and me can figure out a way to tell him...this is just a really bad name without losing him for a friend. That's the worry. How do you tell a friend that his company name sucks so bad he's going to have "pimps and others" hitting on his website if he goes with this. He wants the Health Care Industry for the Elderly to take him seriously because of the name's "historic value?" Sheesh........

5. Uh, I wouldn't
The name is weird and older people aren't going to get it. Need a much more appealing name for his potential customers.
