Wanted you all to let you know I'm OK. We in Richmond had a hell of
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 11:27 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
a day. The gov. declared a state of emergency tonight; got caught in a flash flood. Like a lot of people, had to abandon my car for higher ground.

A building across from where I was able to go tocollapsed. I'd never seen water so high and it was rushing. Scared the shit out of me. O

All was cool until the building we were staying in started to smoke. Thank G-d, some fire and rescue people rescued us in boats.

I just got home about 45 minutes ago. My car floated away, but I'm just glad to be alive.

6. It was just me, thanks. My husband was at home. I was so scared. One guy
who came in to hang (there were about 12 of us in an apartment, many of us strangers) literally swam across the Farmer's Market. The picture I posted doesn't even tell the whole story. I haven't had a chance to talk to my friends.

9. Thanks, zidzi and everyone. I have no idea what happened. It seemed
like the flood gates just opened. It was freaky, too; you could smell the gas fumes from all the cars. I saw mine overturn. Glad I got the hell out when I did!

7. Glad to know you're OK...
I had heard that Richmond area was getting hit hard on the news, but wasn't aware how bad it was up your way. Norfolk/VA Beach had heavy rains and some wind, but not much more. Take care and stay dry.

10. Haven't heard the reports. It was awful; heard one lady outside of the
place where I was hanging for a while was holding up her two kids (the water was so high) out of her sun roof or something; didn't want to look. I got the hell of my car. Not worth it.

11. It's not worth it.
That's what insurance is for.
That family must have been so frightened.

13. Glad you are ok
Flash floods are dangerous and it doesn't take much for a car's tires to act as floatation devices.

16. Saw some video on the news
Last night. Water was coming out of storm drains like a geyser. I am glad to hear you are ok. I hope there was not a lot of damage, having witnessed some severe floods. The news did mention cars floating around in Richmond.
