The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is the most riduculous movie ever
Ignoring the incredible continuity errors (um, I'm pretty sure the Nautilus couldn't MAKE A RIGHT TURN in the canals of Venice), the entire premise of the movie is stupid. I already knew what was going to happen an hour before it did.

It felt like a bad James Bond movie, what with Connery and an 'M' character.

2. Read the two (soon to be three) comic mini-series

by the legendary Alan Moore. The movie is one of the worst adaptations of any comic or novel ever made. It may be a comic, but it's an adult comic and head and shoulders above the crap that was on screen. (For one thing, Tom Sawyer isn't in the comics as he's not even from the right time period.)

3. If you want an example of how different the comics are from the film
Just imagine this concept:

There's a book of annotations (soon to be two) just on the comics. Can you even think of that piece of shit movie needing annotations?

Here's an a bit of the annotations. You'll get a sense of how much more complex and inspired the comics are just from reading through a few of them:

4. The problem with this
They had to completely dumb down the comic for the masses, and spend half the movie just explaining who all the characters were because Americans don't read anymore.

6. Yep, and that's half the fun of the comic--
figuring out where everything came from and how it all fit together. The second series was even more enjoyable with the added John Carter of Mars, War of the Worlds, and Dr. Moreau material.

7. I never got around to the second series
As I kind of took a break from comics around the time it first came out, but I definitely want to check it out.

Playing spot the reference was my favorite thing about it though, aside from the phenomenal storytelling and artwork. It's very fun for pulp geeks. :)

8. The second series is out in TPB
I'm not quite sure when the next one will be out. Probably sometime in the middle of next year. Moore is in the process of killing off his ABC Universe right now. He was supposedly going to retire from comics, but he's started working with his daughter, and I guess that's re-sparked his interest in comics again.

5. The problem with "League" isn't that it's ridiculous...
...the problem is that it's boring.
