2. Can't help too much, but the placard
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:45 AM by pnorman
is made out like a train schedule. The two columns are for "regular days" and "Sunday/Holidays". The destination is: "Old Village" (one's home town, or place of birth). The term has a much stronger emotional pull then in this country.

On edit: It's more likely to be a bus schedule, since the placard on the helmet (can't read it) looks like a bus stop marker.

5. I was bogged down in the minutae of the translation
and didn't really spend much thought on the rest. But that is almost certainly what was it's intent was.

The original transportation system in Japan put a much higher stress on access to remote villages (whether or not it turned a profit) than is usual in this country. Developments in the past few decades (privatization of the railroad system and "industry rationalization", etc.), put such access at risk.

Their instinct to "take to the streets" in largely non-violent and highly imaginative protest, is something we can and SHOULD "copycat" from them.

On edit: Sorry for the dupe; I had received an error message (itself apparently in error!!!) stating that the posting didn't go through, and to retry. LOL!

8. Yeah, Jackson is a LOT whiter than this guy.
Michael gets any whiter, he's going transparent.
