Who likes hot sauce? What's your fave?
Trying to get a book project off the ground here.

I'm a big fan of the Pain is Good line myself.

I know everyone here is already hot 'n spicy...give it up, guys. What's your favorite hot sauce or hot dish?

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 01:26 PM by omshanti
Sambal Oelek is Indonesian red chilli paste, it is awesome and recently I have foudn it in my local grocery store!

edited to say that sambal oelek is not a brand, it means chili paste in Indonesian.

cholula is good but not worth the extra cost. A 16 oz bottle of Tapatio costs 1.29 in the Producto Mexicanos here.

11. Scorned Woman
I'm a hot sauce lover/collector. I always buy 2 - one to keep, one to try. My current count is 387 different sauces from all over the world.

Ask me questions!

BTW, ya gotta love some of the labels. Two of my naughty favs are 'Pain and Pleasure' and one of it's partner sauces, 'Pain and Suffering". A couple of my downright nasty labels: 'The Hottest Fuckin' Sauce' and 'Mean Green Motherfucker'.

The Ass line isn't too bad either (Ass In Space, Ass In the Tub, Ass in antarctica, etc.

I think I like the labels almost as much as the sauces.

19. Del Torro Jabanero Sauce
Del Torro Jabanero Sauce which happens to be made ONLY at La Placita del Torro in the town where I'm currently living. A few drops of this on a taco (NOT American style taco's, but real ones :) ) and any gringo is guaranteed nasal drip for the next twenty hours...

22. Pain is Good sauces are my favorite - the hip flask rule.
Because of my experience with the pain is good sauces, I coined "the hip flask rule," any hot sauce that comes in a hip flask is good.

I don't know the batch numbers, but I absolutely love the bald guy, the orange-y sauce with loads of garlic, and the chunky louisiana style. That Pain is Good stuff is truly superior hto sauce.

Some odd ones, with interesting flavors, not just blazing hot, include "Dat'l do it," one called "Gator" or "Gator Bait" or Gator Hammock," I forget which, its a reference to UF, but the sauce is great, and my strange favorite, "Cafe Louisiane," which has a bunch of truly odd spices in it, including cloves, which gives it the most amazing flavor.

The Louisiana one is a little too smoky. The one with the dreadlock guy is also good. Has a nice substantial carrot note.

I put it on eggs for breakfast or corn or steak. Not too hot, very bright Carribbean flavor. I have to order it from Florida because most places in Texas carry Mexican and southwest-flavored hot sauces.
