Can an Air Purifier take pet hairs out of the air?

I want to purchase one but I don't know what size to buy, what brand is the best and I am not sure if they work or not.

When we change the pre-filter on our HEPA air cleaners, there is always a dense mat or cat hair on it.

As for what size, they rate these by square feet, and that's a pretty good starting point, except you should buy one for a larger area than you intend to use it in as you do not want to run it all the time of the highest air volume setting, as that can be loud.
