Need Help from DU Photoshop experts
Okay, I am grossly ignorant about image editing and need some help from you talented DUers. I was cleaning out a closet and found some pictures my late uncle took when he was stationed in Korea in the 50s (he was an Air Force vet). These are some really nice B&W pictures (photography was a hobby of his) and I scanned them, but they are yellow around the edges and I was wondering what I could do to touch them up some. Here is a sample picture from the batch I scanned:

All the pictures have this kind of yellowing around the edges, some worse than others. I wanted to clean them up, but I didn't want to alter them too much because I would like to keep the vintage feel of the pictures. Any advice or help? Maybe an online tutorial to recommend? Thanks so much.

1. Desaturate > Despeckle > Add contrast > Adjust brightness
Then use the stamp tool to remove the lines.

I will give it a try, hopefully I won't muck them up too much...but that's why the Goddess gave us Undo, right? :)

5. There's some wonderful pictures
When I found them I just had to save them! My uncle was very proud of the time he served in Korea and used to tell me stories when I was little about all the people he met there.

I was thinking of making a little web page about it. It would give me something positive to think about with this Repug garbage going on right now, especially with the bandaid crap.

4. Try image - adjustment - desaturate
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 04:20 PM by joefree1
This will take the color out for a black, white, and grey only look. Then you might want to warm up the photo by image - adjustment - hue/saturation and click the "colorize" box. Then play with the hue slider until you get the feeling you want.

Seating now available in the Smoking Section:

on edit: I'm not big on some of the other filters which will change the actual photo detail.

6. Try using just the red channel.
Click the "Channels" tab, and click on "Red", then select Image->Mode->Grayscale to delete the other channels.
