*$%&@! DOG!
grrrr.

My 9 month old pup who rarely ever chews on anything other than dirty socks decided that chewing a baseball size hole in the carpet would be a great thing to do. Carpet, padding and all...down to the concrete. :grr:

So does anyone know if I can patch this up or something? Do I just call a carpet installer and ask for a quote or something?

1. This is one of those times....
you almost wish shag carpeting was popular again.

One of the ONLY times.

Sorry no help for you. :-(
We're considering fake Pergo.

2. Does the Pup match the carpet?
Only kidding. When my 5 year old was a puppy, the only thing he ever ate was the fabric corner of a chair. Still haven't fixed it.

8. Call the carpet man and get him in on the QT. Your landlord may
see this as a wonderful opportunity to re-carpet at your expense.

15. Distract her and spray some vinegar on the spot.
Then take her out for a walk or something. It might help. They hate that vinegar smell.

9. If you are at all handy you can do it yourself. Your local hardware
store will have the materials you will need to install a patch and should be able to instruct you. You can use a piece of the same carpet taken from a closet or other hidden area.

11. I frequently have daytime fantasies about driving a steak knife
through the skull of the louder of the two dogs I live with.

That and stringing it up by its neck.

I need chemicals.

14. wow. remind me to never piss you off!
that must be one loud dog.

I have days where I wish I could give my dog some sort of doggie downer to calm him down. But he's still a puppy so the energy is to be expected. I can't wait until he mellows a little bit.

12. Carpet, carpet tape, mat knife
Square the hole with the mat knife. Cut a patch to fit snugly. Put a piece of replacement pad in the hole. Stick tape to the back of the carpet around the hole, sticky side up.Install patch. If you're careful the patch should be undetectable.

18. I had one too
When my Aussie was a puppy and not quite kennel trained, we made the mistake of keeping her in the kitchen while we were gone. One day she chewed a hole in the wall - because she apparently found the telephone jack quite appealing. Not only did we have a hole, but we had to rewire the jack.

I miss her too.

20. no kicking. I took this dog in because his previous owner kicked him
I couldn't tell him he was bad either though because I didn't catch him in the act. It happened when I was asleep so by the time I discovered it the next morning, he probably didn't remember doing it. No point in yelling at him. But I have been cussing him out in a sweet demeanor when he comes around looking for attention. That way, he doesn't get hurt for something he doesn't understand and I get the satisfaction of saying mean things to him.

19. Put a rug over it ...

It's gone now unless you have a matching remnant.

You might want to keep some tasty chewables around that the puppy is more likely to tackle.

Another tactic for training would be present the dog with a small carpet, observe and scold him if he tries to chew on the carpet. It's VERY important that you catch him right away. This will condition him to have "bad feelings" when the carpet chew act enters his mind (remember Clockwork Orange).
