2. The Book of Jerry Falwell by Susan Harding
It's actually quite interesting. I was hoping people would think it was by Falwell, and thus be a joke post ;-) ...but you caught me. It's actually a social study on his rise and the rise of the Religious Right. Dry reading, but 14243543464 times better than watching the Con-Job.

3. Ever read Pat Robertson: Most Dangerous Man in America?
It's kind of dated now but it's still pretty good.

6. Oops, I got confused
It's Rob's other book, "Why the Religious Right Is Wrong: About Separation of Church & State" that I have signed.

We had the pleasure of hosting him as a guest of our local AU chapter. As a board member, I got to hang out and talk to him quite a bit.

11. Neat!
I really like the way he breaks down the facts in easy to understand language, especially when it comes to sorting out some of the convoluted connections between RR groups.

13. He's quite charming and "elvish" in person

For someone who deals with so many major assholes, he had one of the most persistent smiles I've ever seen on a man. He was an absolute joy to be around as his good humor seemed to rub off on everyone around him.

5. I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land
and the longer I live in the US, the more I feel like the title character.

I do not grok bush supporters.

8. I feel like the people at DU
are my water brothers, even though we haven't shared water together and there's no way I could wait forever on something.

Except the Henny-Pennies.

I am SO loving this book! I LOVE Michael Valentine Smith!

9. I've read that book twice and both times
I shrugged when I finished. It's a good book, but I guess you need to discover it at a certain time in your life for it to hit you hard. For me, my "SiaSL" was "The Illuminatus Trilogy".

(That and I knew this person who kept on trying to do the water ritual with anyone he got high with, each and every time he got high with them. It got really annoying after a few hundred times.)

10. I can see that
if I had read Stranger in a Strange Land ten years ago, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.

12. SiaSL fans should at least count themselves lucky
Hollywood has been trying to make it into a film for ages. For the last decade it's been Tom Hanks who has been in line to play Smith. I just can't see that as being right, and I'm not even a fan of the book.

14. OMG
Tom Hanks is WAY too old to play him now! Geez! I just got to the part where the authorities have a warrant to search Jubal's home and Smith is hiding in the pool, etc and it describes Jubal having just noticed that Smith has put on 20 pounds of almost pure muscle since coming to his house, so he is young AND buff!

No way!

15. He was too old to play him back when he was first mentioned for the role
I think the only reason he's still being mentioned is that it's Hanks who bought up the rights to the book. Or at least he once had them. I haven't heard anything more about a movie of the book for at least a year now...but then again, I can't say I'm into films as much as I once was.
