Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - the sleeper of the year?
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:50 PM by Finnfan
Advance buzz on this movie is, believe it or not, fantastic. I can't wait; it seems like one of those once-in-a-lifetime films that science-fiction fans wait forever for, like "Tremors" or "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Check out this review from Edge Boston, which has been indicative of all of the reviews I've seen so far:

"It took a scant 26 days for 37-year-old self-professed computer nerd and comic aficionado Kerry Conran, director of photography Eric Adkins, compositing supervisor Stephen Lawes, digital lighting genius Michael Chanfollet, and their star-studded cast to shoot “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.” Almost entirely filmed before bluescreens, with backgrounds “painted” in by Conran and his team over the course of a year following the shoot, the result is a remarkable blend of neveau technology and the sensibilities of 1940s entertainment - a stylish, exciting, truly remarkable achievement in film.

It is, in this critic’s opinion, the breakout cinematic story – and the best film thus far – of 2004."

3. This is a movie no one will be indifferent to
I think. Either they will love it or hate it. No in betweens.

7. That's what I'm hearing
Early reviews seem to be in two camps--it's either one of the best films around or it's total trash. I expect to be in the first camp. I've always loved Steampunk.

5. Really looking forward to it
Really looking forward to it. Love the 1940's set-design and costume. Ahhh... what I wouldn't give for 1940's fashion to make a strong comeback-- I absolutely love the look women had back then :)

Polly Perkins... ya gotta love that name!
