9. I'd start in Mexico City.

As a refugee from the Spanish Civil War (& then from the Nazis), she moved to Mexico, where she spent the rest of her life. A preliminary search indicates that Mexican museums feature her work, but a required registration process defeated my Cyber-Spanglish.

While there, look for works by Leonora Carrington, another woman with a Surreal past who lived in Mexico. They were friends who shared artistic & mystical interests. (Actually, I believe Carrington is still living there; Remedios Varo died at 55.)



(And look up Frida while you're at it!)

It's too bad our National Museum of Women in the Arts doesn't have any of her work to exhibit. They have one Kahlo.

1908-1963. Kahlo was born in 1907 and died in 1954.
