I take great offense to the term "girlie-man"!
How many does one woman's opinion represent of the population?

You know... like in a poll.

1. The purpose of the term is indeed to humiliate
and bully others.......

2. It doesn't really matter how many woman one represents...
if the term is offensive to you, it is offensive to you. As more and more women say that it is offensive to them, perhaps we can make an impression. Otherwise, I'm afraid we're just going to continue to be offended (and I'm right there with you on it).

3. So being a girl is a bad thing. No wonder they don't think women
should have control over their bodies. Obviously we are too stupid, emotional and dippy. And this from the party which claims to be inclusive. Wonder which speaker will be the first to use the "N" word.

4. it's a way to insult by saying "real men" are not like some group that
he thinks is not entirely acceptable. In this case, that less-than-acceptable group is "women', but it could just as well have been some other group that he does not consider acceptable such as based on race, religion, orientation or anything else.

Yes, it is an intentional insult made worse by trying to make it mainstream language.

5. Don't you know?
Hate is the soul of their their cult. They must must speak the language, their followers aren't intelligent enough to digest issues.

7. Very little offends me in parody--
When "girlie-man" was used on SNL, I thought it was funny. It was clearly making Hanz and Franz (and, by extension, Arnold the Bodybuilder -- a public figure, not off-limits) look single-minded and stupid. (It's similar to Archie Bunker's racist language -- it made him look ignorant, which was the point.)

But, here, a sitting governor is trying to use the term seriously, to degrade his opponents, and by extension, many, many of his constituents. And people are eating it up. It's nauseating.

9. The term is silly and it came off as weak and scripted
"economic girlie-men" is not a phrase I expect to hear my teenagers repeating, like "I'll be back".

The only people who can put a stop to this are those who live in California. Arnold is desperate to be re-elected, and afraid to campaign for * too hard lest he offend his Democratic constituants.

I suggest that Cali residents make sure that Governor Gropenatior knows that he made a mistake using that degrading term.

And I agree with the poster above who said it was a funny term when used on SNL, because it was used to mock the stupidity of ultra-macho men.
