1. What..... no Power Windows?????
The one album that typifies what we are all in here ranting and raving about!!!! I'm dare I say it.... "shocked".

I vote for Power Windows, hands down.

"THE BIG MONEY"
Words by Neil Peart, Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

Big money goes around the world
Big money underground
Big money got a mighty voice
Big money make no sound
Big money pull a million strings
Big money hold the prize
Big money weave a mighty web
Big money draw the flies

Sometimes pushing people around Sometimes pulling out the rug Sometimes pushing all the buttons Sometimes pulling out the plug It's the power and the glory It's a war in paradise It's a cinderella story On a tumble of the dice

Big money goes around the world
Big money take a cruise
Big money leave a mighty wake
Big money leave a bruise
Big money make a million dreams
Big money spin big deals
Big money make a mighty head
Big money spin big wheels

Sometimes building ivory towers Sometimes knocking castles down Sometimes building you a stairway -- Lock you underground It's that old-time religion It's the kingdom they would rule It's the fool on television Getting paid to play the fool

Big money goes around the world
Big money give and take
Big money done a power of good
Big money make mistakes
Big money got a heavy hand
Big money take control
Big money got a mean streak
Big money got no soul...

4. It's there now.
Middletown Dreams may be another good song.

8. Middletown Dreams
Oh YES INDEEDY. Thanks for the inclusion...

"MIDDLETOWN DREAMS"
Words by Neil Peart, Music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

The office door closed early
The hidden bottle came out
The salesman turned to close the blinds
A little slow now, a little stout But he's still heading down those tracks Any day now for sure Another day as drab as today Is more than a man can endure

Dreams flow across the heartland
Feeding on the fires
Dreams transport desires
Drive you when you're down -- Dreams transport the ones Who need to get out of town

The boy walks with his best friend
Through the fields of early May
They walk awhile in silence
One close -- one far away But he'd be climbing on that bus Just him and his guitar To blaze across the heavens Like a brilliant shooting star

The middle-aged Madonna
Calls her neighbor on the phone
Day by day the seasons pass
And leave her life alone But she'll go walking out that door On some bright afternoon To go and paint big cities From a lonely attic room

It's understood
By every single person
Who'd be elsewhere if they could
So far so good
And life's not unpleasant
In their little neighborhood

They dream in Middletown...

2. I picked Moving Pictures....
Wasn't as proggy and self indulgent as their earlier work, but less steeped in keyboards and electronics as their latter work.

I like both the earlier proggy stuff and the latter keyboardy stuff, but Moving Pictures has both the best tunes, the tightest playing and just all around whole package.

7. Great song!
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 10:04 AM by Brand
My favorite is this first part:

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate, and give music
What can this thing that I've found?

See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously sings out it's pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
And notes that fall gently, like rain

I can't wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see it light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night

Absolutely love the music for this bit. Gives me the willies.

6. None.
They all are great, simply accentuating the range of a great band. If I absolutely had to choose, 2112 would be first, Moving Pictures second, Farewell to Kings or Grace Under Pressure third.

10. What's The Live Album Called
That's REALLY good! I realize that there were guys back stage playing some parts, because part of their mystique was the 3 guys making that much sound thing. But, the performances are very good on that live album. I just don't remember the name of it. (Is it ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE?)

11. There's four or five...and nobody else played any parts!
They've always done every gig as a three-piece. They might have played one or two bits from tape, but they play/trigger everything themselves.

The live albums:

All The World's A Stage
Exit Stage Left
A Show Of Hands
Different Stages
Rush In Rio

13. They Admitted It In Rolling Stone
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 01:06 PM by ProfessorGAC
Both Lee and Lifeson admitted there were 2nd guitar parts and keyboard parts that sometimes needed to be played by another two guys, offstage. They originally didn't do that, but they weren't happy with the way it sounded. So, they started using extra players. There's nothing wrong with that, if the point was to stay consistent to their vision.

It was in a Rolling Stone interview sometime in the late 80's or so, but i'm not sure 100% when.
The Professor

Edited because of a spelling mistake in the title.

12. Always kind of thought Geddy Lee sounded like a chihauhau being castrated.
Neil Peart still rocks though.
