Star Trek Scotty receives honour
BBC News snip

Doohan is bowing out of public life

Actor James Doohan, famous for playing Scotty in the original Star Trek series, has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 84-year-old's attendance at the ceremony was expected to be his final public appearance. He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and also suffers from Parkinson's disease and diabetes.

Doohan has spent the past few days meeting fans to say farewell and thanking them for their support. Star Trek co-stars at the Walk of Fame ceremony included George Takei, who played Sulu, Nichelle Nichols, who was Uhura, and Walter Koenig, who played Chekov.

Takei said: "This is a galactic day in this town full of stars. "We've gathered from throughout this planet to say congratulations to you, Jimmy.

"We love you and we thank you for your luminous talent. We thank you for the gift you have given us of that unforgettable character, that ingenious and beloved engineer that was able to fix anything."

2. Scotty...my favorite
on the series. I liked the episode where he was reading and Cap'n Kirk asked him what book it was, and Scotty told him it was a techinal mannual which rather blew Kirk away...who reads that stuff on their shore leave? And when he beat up the Klingons after they called the ship a garbage heap, but not when they were insulting Kirk. Goodby Scotty, we love you!

7. I hate saying this
I know he's not going to be with us for many more years. I'm just happy he received his star now. He should have had it many years ago!
