What are some really obscure television shows?
Name some television shows that have been lost and largely forgotten in the mists of time.

For instance...does anyone remember "The Debbie Reynolds Show", an NBC sitcom from the early 70's? I do. :-)

Square pegs, square pegs
Square, square pegs

Always never quite right.
I’d like it if they liked us, but I don’t think they like us.
So tell me where’s the party, and how come we weren’t invited?
One size does not fit all.

Don’t wanna wear my glasses, I have to wear my glasses.
Why are we wearing this year what they were wearing last year?
Yeah, I’d be cuter without gum in my braces.
I hope the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts.

She said that she was
But we know she isn’t
And she said that she would
But he hasn’t asked her.

He did - and we know it
But with whom
We can't guess it.

And they think that we’re the.

Square pegs, square pegs
Square, square pegs

Really funny - who broke the ð button on my calculator?
May you be eternally grounded.
Me? Get juiced with The Cool Patrol?
Uh . . . no thanks . . . Why do you think they call it beer?
I mean...listen to him!

(sax solo)

Square pegs, square pegs
Square, square pegs

Ya know, our school colors should be black and blue.
Yeah. I mean no. Huh? What?
No. I don’t think I have a bad attitude. Why?
Suspended? Suspended for what?
But they told me it was Senior Wig Day!
Honest, I don’t even know how those worms got there.
Now, what would I do with 200 peanut butter cups?
One size does not fit all

30. Herman's Head bought my skis
I sold some Hexcel skis on consignment years and years ago. They were "Hexcelerators" but I had thrashed them and they had a rivet in one tip where they had delaminated. I was shocked when they told the skis had sold -- then they told me that it was the prop master from Herman's Head that bought them. So my skis were judged comedy worthy.

Never saw the episode though.

23. The Invaders
I was in first grade when it had its run & it seriously creeped me out... or maybe Rod Serling's Night Gallery, which IMO was often just as brilliant as the original Twilight Zone but never seemed to have the same following. I haven't seen any episodes since the original run but I still remember many of them vividly - like John Astin as a dirty hippie dying & ending up in hell. Or the elderly woman with an amazing green thumb who plants her severed fingers before being murdered by an evil boarder...

Or most of all -- a British sitcom from the early 80s which is defying all of my attempts to research it -- it's about a retired right-wing Army Major who starts his own militia with the aim of overthrowing the British government. A brilliant satire of right-wingers in general. Best writing EVER of ANY television show I've ever seen...and I can't remember the title. Damn aging brain cells...

One of my all-time favorites. Was on for one season (1963 I think). A Jay Ward production (think Rocky and Bullwinkle), they put hilarious sound tracks to public-domain silent films.

Woody Allen did much the same in "What's Up Tiger Lily?"

50. Winky Dink is a classic...
...of interactive television.

When I worked at an educational software company, I tried to convince my 24-year-old producer that we should do a title loosely based on the Winky Dink paradigm. No need for the "magic screen" and crayons, you see!

He just stared blankly at me, and I gave up.

But that was a great show for kids.

67. Johnny Bago
Has to be one of the funniest things on TV ever. Never did find out what the hell "Timberdoodle" meant.

72. The Kallikaks
"Beat the System, Beat the System" - an old NBC sitcom that lasted not even ONE season. It wasn't bad, despite it being a Beverly Hilbillies rip-off.

76. How about "The Ugliest Girl in Town"?
The town was London, and the "girl" was Peter Kastner in DRAG, if I recall correctly.

And am I the only one who remembers "Mr. Terrific" and "Captain Nice"? I can still remember the entire opening sequence for "Mr. Terrific" ("What they found made them squeamish, for only Stanley Beamish, a weak and droopy daffodil could take the special power pill...").

There's a part of my brain that's too crowded with this stuff.

A *musical* sitcom from the 80s - probably only lasted a year or two.

it was absolutely horrible. Like, more horrible than Small Wonder, which I think is physically unpossible :)

87. "Sunrise Semester"
I don't remember very much about it. I think it was college-level lectures, and I was only about 5-y-o. that would have put it around 1961 or therebouts.

They did a series on (I THINK) anatomy, and had a skeleton on the set. My brother swore it moved its head and clacked its jaw...I didn't see it.

92. early edition!
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 05:52 PM by barackmyworld
where the guy gets the paper a day early and tries to save people's lives. It was filmed in chicago and one time they filmed right by my old high school so we got to meet the cast. They gave us snacks too. My friend quietly complimented Kyle Chandler's ass while he was signing an autograph against the wall, and he heard her. Good times, good times.

I also feel a need to mention Due South, which was about mounties. That show rocked.
