Need info on Seattle
I'm scheduled for a one day conference in Seattle at the Convention Center in mid-November. Since I've never been to Seattle, I have a question about lodging.

I'm not going to be staying long-in the day before, out the day after. So I'm wanting to stay kind of close to where my conference will be. The Summerfield Suites is supposedly next door, but kind of pricey. I was also looking at the Comfort Suites at Seattle Center. Not close to the Convention center but close to the monorail (or the buses that are subbing for the monorail while it's being fixed). It's $50 less a night, but what kind of hassles will it be getting to transportation in November weather? Does the monorail take you directly to the CC, or would there be a long walk? I'm not afraid of rain, mind you, but looking for the easiest route since I'm not familiar with the area.

Thanks for any info.

1. Try the YMCA...
...at 4th and Marion St. I admit it's been about ten years since I've been to Seattle but the YMCA there was very cheap and clean. Very decent place to stay. I stayed there for a week and it only cost $160.00. It's probably a bit more by now.

3. AFAIK - the monorail isn't going to go back into service
But it's only a short bus ride from the Seattle Center to the Convention Center. Metro has a good online trip planner. Just type in the address of the your starting and ending point, and the time you want to go. It will give you the best bus routes and schedules (as well as the fare).

4. It's not a long walk or ride. Any other hotel options?
It's not a long walk or busride from Seattle Center to the Convention Center, but I'd probably go for the convenience of being closer myself. Especially for a short stay.

Have you looked into any other hotels?

5. Another option in downtown Seattle
Another option is Pensione Nichols right in the Pike Place Market:

It's a B&B - I don't know how pricey it is relative to a hotel, but it's in a neat location, it's independently owned and it's a 5 minute walk to the convention center.

8. i know people who live here in Seattle
who have stayed at Pensione Nichols on a whim and Loved it, thought the food was great the price was nice, and if you fancy a beer in a non-smoking atmosphere, the very fab 'Virginia Inn' is nearby...i think it's more like a 10 minute walk-i only mention that, because in November, 5 minutes extra outdoors here can make a HUGE difference...there is free bus service in downtown to the convention center...

9. Might be 10 minutes. But is the VI non smoking now?
I can hardly believe the Virginia Inn is non smoking. I mean I DO believe you. It's just always so dark in the VI that I assume it's filled with smoke.

7. Oh cool!
We're both classic film buffs, I hope we can hook up while I'm there.
She's probably on her way to Cinecon now, I'll have to catch her when she gets back...
