I'm not a self-starter or a self-motivator
It's a good thing I have a job, or I think I would just starve to death.

I took a different type of job in the same field this year. Used to be a classroom teacher. Now more of a "consultant." I have an unused classroom as my office, which I share with no one. It's depressingly empty and lonely.

Unlike teaching, this job has deadlines which are far off. Or non-existent. There aren't any huge objectives or parameters with which to work.

Great job for a self-starter, eh? I used to think I was one. But the less pressure I feel, apparently the less I do. I have become a blob sitting in my chair for eight hours a day.

I talked to a friend about it and she kinda kicked my butt and I feel a bit jump-started. Guess I am going to have to get her to verbally kick my ass every now and then.

Oh, my boss is in another building across town and I don't answer to anyone in my building. Sounds great, right? So I thought. Except a lot of days I don't see another soul all day and the whole turning into a human blob thing.

The grass isn't greener, guys, it's just spray painted.

2. Oh I am VERY glad I have a job
and I was very lucky to get it! 45 teachers applied for it! I was burned out. I am actually planning on going back into the classroom in at least three years or so, all refreshed and not burned out anymore.

And I am hopefully starting grad school (one class at a time) next semester.

But damn. I just don't do well like this.....very little human interaction...

3. I'm not a psyschologist
and I don't try to play one on DU. Sounds like depression, though.
Been there after signifigant abuse and loss. Really did a number on my own self-motivation. to you

4. Yeah but
can depression be brought on simply by a new job?

I guess so. That'd be situational depression, eh?

I don't know, I'll have to explore that further. Thanks for the hugs! I think I'm just trying to figure this job out and such a small amount of human interaction really isn't too good for me....

7. It was my choice
the competition for this job was FIERCE! (It's a new position...)

Ah well. Suck it up. That's what I'll do. Get used to it or change it.
