Feds say Las Vegas telemarketer violated no-call rules over 300,000 times
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 02:04 PM by Champ
Federal prosecutors are charging a Las Vegas company with making more than 300,000 telemarketing calls to consumers on the national do-not-call list.

It marks the first case dealing solely with do-not-call violations since the popular year-old registry took effect last October and the first time the government is seeking civil penalties against a telemarketer.

Braglia Marketing Group has been making the improper calls since last October, the Federal Trade Commission says in the case filed Monday in a Nevada federal court. Company owners Frank and Kate Braglia did not return phone messages. Braglia attorney Sean Wilson would not comment.

Telemarketers are barred from calling numbers on the national list, which contains about 63 million numbers. Companies must pay $25 per area code, or a maximum of $7,250 nationwide, to get a list of registered numbers in that region. Those fees are to rise to $40 per area code and $11,000 maximum today.
